We've provided more info and conversation about a tragic stat that's worth repeating and so far overlooked by local news despite a great deal of social media chatter.
This info is exceptionally relevant given an increasing in violence throughout the nation and police involved in nearly 1000 fatal alternations nationwide.
Whilst progressives doubt "The Ferguson Effect", it's clear that there is a wave of civic unrest that could be underlying so much violence across the nation.

ReplyDeleteThe police don't shoot people for committing crimes' they shoot them because someone is trying to shoot them first, run over them with a car, beat them to death etc. Anybody, regardless of color can avoid being killed by the police by refraining from specific conduct.

The Ferguson Effect is undoubtedly occurring: Baltimore, and its highest rate in 40 years, is the prime example.

ReplyDeleteI really believe that the press and public are completely missing the mark on police use of force. Police use force because the law either allows or compels it. Now there are a few cases each year where an officer crossed the big line and offs someone without justification, but the huge percentage of police shootings are legal. What I do not grasp is why people blame the shooter, take to the streets and then turn around and elect officials who either pass or endorse the laws and refuse to change them. In some cases the laws probably should not be changed, but in some, like Missouri, telling a police officer that he should kill a while collar crime suspect, a person who bounced a check, who questions his arrest or offers minimal resistance is a little over the top. However, why are we blaming officer for doing what we are, in fact, paying them to do? If you want the laws change you don't go down to the Plaza, disrupt activities and act like a certified shit heel. You have a legislator. That is the guy or gal who can actually change the status quo. Given there have been no changes, even after the Ferguson fiasco, I have to wonder if people really believed there was an injustice at all.

Crime went up after Ferguson because, naturally, the perception of disenfranchisement among the black poor raised with every killing of an unarmed black man by the police.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the things that is fundamentally wrong with black people. Every misfortune is about some white conspiracy. A black man kills ten people in the hood and that is life in the big city. A white cop legally kills a thug and in the black mind that is disenfranchisement. The problem is the disenfranchisement is the fault of black leadership in the case of Ferguson. No less than a half dozen black state legislators and leaders came to Ferguson cursing whitey and the "murdering" police officer for shooting the criminal Michael Brown. Two things happened that trump the traditional claims of a white conspiracy. First the state statutes that were passed by the very legislature the black leaders we members of and Wilson was not charged - he complied with the statutes. Second, the Very black leaders who ran their mouths for weeks over Ferguson did not take a single action to introduce a bill or change the use of force laws that compelled Officer Wilson to shoot. In effect the black leaders disenfranchised their own community. None of this failure to act in the interest of blacks was about white black leaders. This is what the back community does. When a black man is shot in the black community by a black it is whiteys fault and part of that anti black conspiracy. When a White police officer shoots under color of law black leaders effectively say, "fuck those coons", and do nothing. Sounds to me like the black community is fucking over itself with complete stupidity.
