TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! MUST SEE!!! KANSAS CITY 2ND DISTRICT AT-LARGE COUNCIL CONTENDERS BATTLE OVER FAIR CAMPAIGN CIVILITY PLEDGE!!!
This morning we celebrate a bit of Kansas City election season irony.
To wit . . .
CHECK OUT A KANSAS CITY COUNCIL CONTENDERS FIGHTING OVER A FAIR CAMPAIGN CIVILITY PLEDGE!!!
Insiders told us that the 2nd District contest betwixt Teresa Loar vs. Jay Hodges was going to be intense . . . And already they don't disappoint.
Remember that this controversy has it's roots in a civility resolution passed by City Council and championed by Councilman Ed Ford.
The City Hall legislation reminds us that "Word can kill" and invokes the recent death of Missouri State Auditor Tom Schweich who is said to have committed suicide amid a whisper campaign and talk of political bullying.
Some Kansas City Insiders suggest that Councilman Ford actually drafted the legislation specifically to assist the Loar campaign while others think of it more as just a run-of-the-mill bit of political opportunism instead of a heartfelt gesture that some council members like outgoing political lady Jan Marcason claim it to be . . .
Either way . . .
It's a fact that Teresa Loar was greeted with cheers, overwhelming support and applause when she introduced the pledge last week at the Citizens Association Board Of Governor's voting night when she won the endorsement of the group.
The immediate aftermath of the introduction . . .
2nd District challenger Jay Hodges offered some changes to the document on Friday afternoon . . .
And so . . .
NOW CHECK TERESA LOAR CALLING OUT JAY HODGES FOR NOT SIGNING THE CAMPAIGN CIVILITY PLEDGE: "IT WAS NOT PROVIDED FOR NEGOTIATION OR REVISION" THE FORMER COUNCIL LADY NOTES!!!
Here's her statement:
As you know, last Thursday, March 5, 2015, I presented a signed copy of the Fair Campaign Pledge to the Citizens Association membership meeting to make a clear and concise statement of purpose: No more politics of personal destruction. The lessons from last week’s tragedy and the eulogy by Senator Danforth are clear as well, and were the inspiration for this Fair Campaign pledge.
Now it is your turn. Please sign the attached copy of the document that I have already signed and let’s make the citizens of Kansas City, Missouri proud of our campaign.
This contract is very straightforward and fair. It was not provided for negotiation or revision. In fact, the revised version you are now proposing stripped the Fair Campaign Pledge of its most important commitment: to stick to the issues of this race, and not hide behind legal language that provides cover for campaign consultants to conduct a campaign that seeks to destroy an opponent personally. It is contrary to the purpose and spirit of the Fair Campaign Pledge.
Please join me in signing the attached copy of the Fair Campaign Pledge and let’s make the citizens of Kansas City, Missouri proud of our campaign to represent them as their Second District At-Large councilmember.
Sincerely,
Teresa Loar

And just now . . .
COUNCIL CONTENDER JAY HODGES SAYS THE AGREEMENT ISN'T FAIR!!!
His response:
Teresa,
Please clarify to me that you are requesting an agreement between two parties be only written by one side? How is that fair? That seems to go against the spirit of this agreement. I am happy to discuss the terms of this agreement but will not be forced or made to sign any agreement.
Lets be fair and discuss this agreement to find a solution.
You have my edits. I look forward to discussing this agreement in length at your availability.
Jay

Now . . .
YOU DECIDE: SHOULD THESE KANSAS CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES FIGHT TO THE DEATH TO DEFEND CIVILITY AND FAIRNESS?!?!?
Either way . . . The topic of fair campaigning continues to be up for debate as the April 7th primary nears.
TKC FUN FACT UPDATE: IN A RECENT POLL AMONG THE TKC BLOG COMMUNITY THE RESULT WAS A 50/50 DEADLOCK TIE BETWIXT THESE TWO CANDIDATES!!!
I am not kidding, I just updated and went to look back at the poll we launched 2 weeks ago and the result was just as surprising and something I didn't guess just like two politicos starting their election contest with a fight over civility.
Developing . . .
I give the first round to Ed Ford. And we need to start having debates instead of so many forums. Let's stop fooling ourselves.
ReplyDeleteMy bullshit meter is going off again. Just pay attention and watch who is the first to scream "foul".
ReplyDelete^^^^^^^^ I agree
ReplyDeleteDon't waste our time with this soap opera bullshit.
ReplyDeleteHow bout "developing" the downtown toy train cost overruns story for example.
Terri,
ReplyDeleteRoll it up into a tube and shove it up your fat ass!
That ass wipe Russ Johnson will soon be gone. That's all that counts.
ReplyDelete"Let's have a meeting". Run it up the flagpole as it were. Maybe they'll bring treats.
ReplyDeleteJay Hodges @jay4kc · Feb 23
ReplyDeleteParking? Wont the street car help? Thoughts?
That right there is enough cause for immediate disqualification.
Jay Hodges is part of the problem not the solution.
ReplyDeleteAt least this little tiff spares them both from having to discuss the issues of government in KC. That's got to be a relief.
ReplyDeleteGentlemen! You can't fight in here! This is the War Room!
ReplyDeleteKeep it Frosty!

8:59 FTW!
ReplyDeleteIf you ever want to have really short meetings or forums, focus on asking candidates in KCMO to discuss municipal issues, their ideas for how to improve the community for residents and businesses, and why they're running for public office.
You'll be on your way home in about 15 minutes!
So don't sign and lose the election. HA Ha Ha Ha HA
ReplyDeleteDon't waste to much time lapping up and liking Toni Bones Facebook posts as we approach the election dude. She's not interested.
ReplyDeleteLook at the bright side we only have four more notches to descend until Kansas City is the worst-run city in US
ReplyDeleteAll I really want is a contract or promise sworn before God that no one will mention the fact that I copped a guilty plea for campaign finance FRAUD.
ReplyDeleteIt would be totally uncivil to mention my FRAUD conviction.
So Please, be civil and never tell the voters of Kansas City about my FRAUD conviction.
FRAUD is just a part of government in this century. Especially with the democrat party.
ReplyDeleteGet everyone to sign an agreement to eliminate the earnings tax and you have done something constructive. This silly ass, self serving Boy Scout, campaign ethics agreement is suck a fucking farce my ass wont unpucker for a week after the local yokel election.
ReplyDeleteThis is cute. Let's have a game where we sign stuff instead of actually doing anything substantial. 859 is right.
ReplyDeleteWho cares about this. We are single issue voters. Where do they stand on the streetcar?
ReplyDeleteEd Ford came up with this BS agreement to protect Teresa Loar for one reason: so she can campaign dirty using Glorioso and not take responsibility for it. Now, and another reason. They desperately don't want all of the stories from the KC Star on her past ethical transgressions with getting her husband a plum job at the Zoo, using NTDF money to pay consultant buddies in violation of NTDF ordinance, and pleading guilty to campaign finance fraud to be brought out.
ReplyDeleteSo Teresa says sigh MY agreement or else!
Real civil and classy Teresa. You haven't changed a bit.
Between Loar and Shields it looks like the Pendergast era is coming back.
ReplyDeleteI bet Teresa Loar wishes she had that one back. Taking the fall for her boyfriend back then probably doesn't seem like such a good idea today. That said, I believe she will accomplish more good than Sly's lackey.
ReplyDeleteHow Has Teresa Loar lived in KC for two years before the April 2015 election if she promoted a scarf business from her Gladstone apartment September 2, 2013.
ReplyDeleteSee KC Star that date.
Loar taking a Fair Campaign Civility Pledge is like a prostitute taking a Purity Pledge.
ReplyDeleteSly's staff have a rep for being a reflection of his temperament. That's a nice way of saying they're bullies too. No thanks.
ReplyDelete12:37 said "Between Loar and Shields it looks like the Pendergast era is coming back.
ReplyDeleteIt's been back for 8 years now with Russ Johnson and Troy Schulte.
Aren't we forgetting that Jay Hodges is bought and paid for by Local 42 and the unions?
ReplyDeleteIf you like the current budget, you'll love how Jay Hodges has his livelihood dependent on delivering the vote to his bosses.
Nice try, 3:44. Loar tried like mad to get the Local 42 and labor vote. Hodges just knows more and will govern better. And he's never pleaded guilty to campaign finance fraud.
ReplyDeleteEVERYTHING and I mean EVERY fucking thing in this city is made or breaks on whispering campaigns by grown adults, it does not matter in the very least how important or how much people rely on the person or program, whether the whispers are a lie and usually they are, if you do not sit on the side of the powers that be this city will put you out of business and laugh about it over drinks
ReplyDelete"Hodges just knows more and will govern better."
ReplyDeleteHe knows how to take union handouts better?
Sounds like just another white welfare case to me.
Don't get me wrong, Loar has her problems too. But Jason Hodges is completely bought and paid for, he has no independence from the unions or the mayor. He is a nothing vote and just a product of special interests.
I support Teresa Loar.
ReplyDeleteI vote for GICO's Maxwell the Pig before I vote for any of these assholes!
ReplyDeleteLoar couldn't even get the police enforcement, even though her son is one. It has to be because of her conviction.
ReplyDeleteShe's nice AND ethical. I SUPPORT her!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think Maxwell is an excellent choice ! Weeee...
ReplyDelete8:42, are you high? Loar doesn't have an ethical bone n her body. She had so many ethical lapses in her first terms on the council, mathematical Star labeled her as ethically challenged, She pleaded guilty to campaign finance fraud. She is cronyism at its highest.
ReplyDeleteHodges is, despite what Loar's team of Steve Glorioso and Terry Riley would have you believe, is not tied down to the mayor or any special interest group. He truly cares about this city, and improving it. He saw he could do more good as a council member than as a paid Mayoral staffer. Jay is supported by unions but is not beholden to him. By the way, this is the same union support Loar tried to get for herself and failed.. She got fired from her latest job, is suing them and the federal trial is next September. Perfect idea of a council member.
And he needs a job. The gift shop at Boulevard isnt paying the bills.
