All of the local newsies are going gaga over the big Google presser this morning.
Thankfully, you don't have to watch local media to get the news.
Google doesn't need to be nice to local press folks so they're making all their info available online . . . Which I hope is a trend that continues.
Watch it all unfold on Youtube LIVE.
Check Google Fiber On Twitter.
Google Fiber On Google+
The Google Fiber webpage
It's gonna be free, right?
I'm getting ahead of myself and all of you . . . More later after newsies are finished breaking news that's already on the Internets.
Update: It's a cable killer. Tablet Remote. DVR that records 8 shows at a time. Carries local broadcast networks, something about local programming and more.
I want an iPad too.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited! I am interested in the job opportunities Google may bring to the Metro.
ReplyDeleteGoogle Fiber is pimping the Poor!
ReplyDeleteSounds like TW & Comcast have finally got some competition.... if you consider competition as having your ass handed to on a tin platter. Man that karma thing is just terrific!
ReplyDeleteANNOUNCEMENT: Thank you for listening to this announcement. We are happy to announce several people listened to this announcement. Mr. McGoogle.
ReplyDeleteThank you we at Google are pleased to announce our plan to build a space elevator into space in Kansas City Kansas.
ReplyDeleteGoogle Doodles is coming to KC! Please stay tuned for our next announcement.
ReplyDeleteThis is boring as shit.
ReplyDeleteHey Kansas City it's the Google Guys! Thanks for you incredible enthusiasm! (Snark)
ReplyDeleteSo here we are in 2011, on our fancy Macbooks and high-speed broadband, stuck with the same bogus headlines they had in the 19th century.

As magician Ricky Jay once put it, “People respond to and are deceived by the same things they were a hundred years ago.”
ReplyDeleteThis is going to good for business. For example I am going to open a Bologna sandwich shop in the cloud. Now, no one will actually get a sandwich but you can stream a video of someone who looks somewhat like you enjoying the sandwich, you just purchased, to any device that can play video. Google fiber will ensure everyone get's to enjoy their virtual sandwich at incredible speeds!
ReplyDeleteMy Time Warner connection had to stop and buffer 5 times during this video, so far.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I can't wait.
Uh that's a YouTube (Google) problem chuck.
ReplyDeleteLOL. Nice one.
ReplyDeleteBye bye TWC Roadrunner internet!
ReplyDeleteGoogle wants a $10.00 "commitment fee". Cheap ass son of bitches.
ReplyDelete7 years of free internet. You’ll only have to pay the $300 installation fee for Fiber internet that comes standard with every Google Fiber deal, then deal with the idea that you’ll only get standard 5 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload.
ReplyDeleteHahaha!
Google Inc. revealed Thursday what it will charge for its long-awaited, ultra-fast Internet service in Kansas City: $70 per month. For another $50 per month, Google will provide cable-TV-like service over the fiber, too.
ReplyDeleteFor everyday activities such as Web surfing, email and video-watching, there will likely be no substantial difference. The higher speeds will help with video sharing and online backups.
What a deal!
LOL!
Delete12:33 PM What a deal! LOL
ReplyDeleteHope it performs better than YouTube.
ReplyDelete11:51
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty funny. :)
the $10 is a deposit, not a fee. And my Brookside neighborhood is right up there in the rankings! This is exciting. I am glad to live in KCMO and not in one of the lame suburbs, where I would miss out on this amazing chance.
ReplyDeleteYes, and fortunately the new fiber isn't copper so it's less likely to be ripped out of your house and stoem while you're at work during the day. I hope Google makes that to the regulars in the KCMO copper business before they rip up alot of stuff for nothing.
ReplyDeleteThat KCMO is just a great place to live!
Sure just give us your $10.00 and let us think about it for another two months to see if your hood is worth becoming a "fiber hood". If not you'll get a refund, eventually.
ReplyDelete%70 a month versus $44.95 a month for what will basically be the same performance. Most peoples machines won't be able to handle and process the full speed and capacity. Think hard now!
ReplyDeleteAw come on drink the Kool Aid! This is the biggest thing since the Facebook IPO.
ReplyDeleteWay over hyped there really hasn't been that much interest in it since the beginning and there still isn't. My guess is a lot of people today are setting themselves up for big disappointment.
ReplyDeleteUmmmmm ...having dealt with enough tight ass cable companies could you please list exactly what channels you get in the package and what, if any restrictions on Internet use? Any per TV charges or charges for Internet boxes? Any throttling? ...and Oh Yeah! When will it be available in the burbs where near everyone now lives?
ReplyDeleteHey, if nothing else, it will be a change to ahve a different group of folks, provide poor service, charge too much, make me talk to robots and hang up on me when I have problems.
ReplyDeleteTime Warner is brutal.
Yes look forward to Google constantly tweaking, changing, and wrecking our Fiber Hood like they do to everything else in their control. I can just see Google Doodles and YouTube like ad's popping up in the middle or along the bottom of the screen when your watching a show. I suppose they'll drop cookies all over the place also along with whatever else they can sniff.
ReplyDeleteHey man don't be so uptight dude! This is the Internets!
ReplyDeleteGoogle reported Thursday that its Google Talk IM and video chat service was down in parts of the United States and across the globe--the third major cloud outage of the day. Hehe nothing to see here move along.
ReplyDelete1:31: The $10 looks like a fee--at least that's what it's called on their site.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if you have to buy cable and Internet? I'm not interested in cable as I actually have a life.
3:13, Google isn't offering "cable". Toolbag.
ReplyDeleteOK. TV. Internet TV. Whatever.
ReplyDeleteEvidently you don't know.
Anyone who cares about this should have their head examined. Period.
