Thankfully, you don't have to watch local media to get the news.
Google doesn't need to be nice to local press folks so they're making all their info available online . . . Which I hope is a trend that continues.

Update: It's a cable killer. Tablet Remote. DVR that records 8 shows at a time. Carries local broadcast networks, something about local programming and more.

ReplyDeleteThis is going to good for business. For example I am going to open a Bologna sandwich shop in the cloud. Now, no one will actually get a sandwich but you can stream a video of someone who looks somewhat like you enjoying the sandwich, you just purchased, to any device that can play video. Google fiber will ensure everyone get's to enjoy their virtual sandwich at incredible speeds!

ReplyDelete7 years of free internet. You’ll only have to pay the $300 installation fee for Fiber internet that comes standard with every Google Fiber deal, then deal with the idea that you’ll only get standard 5 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload.

Google Inc. revealed Thursday what it will charge for its long-awaited, ultra-fast Internet service in Kansas City: $70 per month. For another $50 per month, Google will provide cable-TV-like service over the fiber, too.
ReplyDeleteFor everyday activities such as Web surfing, email and video-watching, there will likely be no substantial difference. The higher speeds will help with video sharing and online backups.

the $10 is a deposit, not a fee. And my Brookside neighborhood is right up there in the rankings! This is exciting. I am glad to live in KCMO and not in one of the lame suburbs, where I would miss out on this amazing chance.
ReplyDeleteYes, and fortunately the new fiber isn't copper so it's less likely to be ripped out of your house and stoem while you're at work during the day. I hope Google makes that to the regulars in the KCMO copper business before they rip up alot of stuff for nothing.

ReplyDeleteWay over hyped there really hasn't been that much interest in it since the beginning and there still isn't. My guess is a lot of people today are setting themselves up for big disappointment.
ReplyDeleteUmmmmm ...having dealt with enough tight ass cable companies could you please list exactly what channels you get in the package and what, if any restrictions on Internet use? Any per TV charges or charges for Internet boxes? Any throttling? ...and Oh Yeah! When will it be available in the burbs where near everyone now lives?

Yes look forward to Google constantly tweaking, changing, and wrecking our Fiber Hood like they do to everything else in their control. I can just see Google Doodles and YouTube like ad's popping up in the middle or along the bottom of the screen when your watching a show. I suppose they'll drop cookies all over the place also along with whatever else they can sniff.
