  1. I wouldn't call the chief a "power player" it seems like he's just following orders when he speaks of taxes and blight. Demolishing buildings and promoting taxes is not what police are paid to do.

Mike made the right move. Look at the stock market, it's time to cash out. He's smarter than I thought he was.

  3. Yeah, 8:14 PD should have rights to address SAFETY & PROTECTION of the public. Blighted and filthy dump sites can breed disease AND disorder. Hidey holes for crime is what empty houses provide. The PD & FD shouldn't have to risk life and limb going into these dangerous blighted structures, either. There are sharp objects and feces in too many of the trash heaped rooms and weedy yards. That is recipe for very debilitating infections. IEDs in battlegrounds of Afghanistan are shit bombs. So, let our public servants worry about that danger added to all too many hazards already? First responders in fugitive pursuits or conducting any calls for service running into a dangerously rotting house is unnecessary. Should we allow PD and FD the avoidable risks of falling through roofs and floors in low value to worthless properties? The very worst need to be gone NOW--before injured city personnel cost resources that are much needed for serving the public.

  4. Anon 9:19, is correct. These buildings must come down. If the owners abandon responsibility, then they also abandon 'property rights'. Tear them down & put the vacant lots on the market, cheap, so they will be bought by potential homeowners.

  10. What about Teresa Loar, she's racking up a string of victories at city hall because she's such a "strong woman" with such a "take no prisoners" attitude. Just look at her victories this week:

    1. She stopped the new airport in its tracks by getting a "free" bid from her buddy to upgrade the airport in a way that sacrifices all of the convenience and doesn't get any of the benefits of a new airports, all while managing to spend more money!

    2. She sure showed that stinky ol' mayor who's boss by getting steamrolled in her attempt to block the City Manager's new contract (which passed unanimously...with a raise!)

    3. She shepherded Local 42's contract through the council with her brains and cunning. Oh wait...
