Today there will be an important Kansas City showdown at City Hall that could determine the political landscape for the future.

To wit . . .

CHECK THIS EXCLUSIVE QUOTE FROM A KANSAS CITY INSIDER THAT OFFERS PERSPECTIVE ON TODAY'S FIGHT OVER KCFD PRIVATIZATION AND OUTSOURCING!!!

Today is an important test of Mayor Sly's stubbornness and political trust in his economic planning among his colleagues.

EXCLUSIVE Word From A Kansas City Insider: "Will Mayor Sly be able to muscle through approval of a sweetheart contract to handle ambulance billing with a company involved in a massive patient identity theft that has been dumped by numerous jurisdictions such as Dallas, Memphis and Johnson County, Kansas, for poor collections and lousy customer service after the Council voted 11-0 on March 20 to reject a contract with that company? If so, how will Councilmembers who switch their vote explain their flip flop?"

Our links summary for folks wanting a COMPREHENSIVE OVERVIEW of this issue . . .

Remember that our blog community broke this story back in March

Since then, we've noted rampant dissatisfaction with Intermedix - The company that's going to takeover KCFD jobs.

We've found info that notes this company and its subsidiaries have hosted complaints over lost patient data.

And most importantly for everybody . . . In the end, this move could end up raising ambulance billing rates.

We've been encouraged to see mainstream media follow-up on this story . . .

A Community Newspaper noted that Mayor Sly called city workers "stupid" when trying to push this plan.

KMBC: Councilman blasts plan to privatize KC ambulance billing

KCTV5: Red flags raised about ambulance billing service hired by city

And today we'll see if Mayor Sly betrays KCFD and pushes through this deal that has been met with citywide disapproval.

  1. better title: Sly James KCFD double cross.

  2. Privatized services almost always result in higher costs and worse service.

  3. Scott Wagner is the deciding vote that will make Sly's deal happen today. That is why Sly kicked Sharp off Finance and replaced him with Wagner right before he reintroduced this ordinance to Finance because Public Safety shot it down. Wagner better know that the choice is his....Do what is right or do good on the dirty deal he made with Sly that got him on Finance which will turn every Kansas City Labor Union, every influential Black leader and their community, and pretty much the majority of this city against him.

  4. Good 'ol what passes for government in KCMO.
It's never what, how, or how well; it's always WHO.
With the constant dysfunction of the largest municipality in the region, it's little wonder that it's slipping further behind the rest of the country.
Like watching the antics of a middle school social club.

  5. Wagner has an opportunity to be a leader and an independent thinker today. Will he do it? Or bow down to Sly.

  8. Wagner doesn't want to feed poor folk, but he's ok with feeding big business.

  9. It sounds like we will know if this Wagner guy is for the people of KC or for big business. Champion of the working class or empty suite that does the bidding of evil corporations... Should know by 5pm!

  10. Since this is Sharp vs Sly. Sly is going to win.

  11. I saw John Sharp at the Miley Cirus concert. He said he could not decent dollars for Council tickets.

If you look closely you can see John in his younger years at the 2:45 minute mark.

  12. Shame that this city has no sense itself. Too bad we have to impress tourists with rampant spending instead of taking care of our residents.

  13. This is getting old. Is there enough kleenex in the city for all the TKC crying about "toy trains" and "old and busted storm sewers" and "kcfd outsourcing."

This little more than a one trick pony with the manufactured angst of the day.

If I ever wondered what its like to live a life of despair and depression, I just need to check in with Tonys KC.

  20. Hey what about that Transportation tax that will make our sales tax 10% before the county and city add more votes to incease it in the future.

Gotta love the unions, construction industry and big truck industry. Don't you just know they are looking out for the best interest of our limited dollars in this BOOMING economy.

  21. Sly better hope he doesn't get a viable challenger from the Northland in the next election. KCFD and supporters helped him win in the Northland over Burke. Not this time!

Absolutely. Why would Tony expect the mayor, city council and all city officials to be good stewards of the taxpayer's money?

Total bullshit. Tony should just get on the "Fuck the sewers, streets and citizens" bandwagon and kiss some fuckin ass.

  23. Wagner is chin challenged now that I think about it.

  26. Is anybody on this website except show me'a semi literate anti every tax clowns?

Nobody in brookside who agreed with the save out trolley tack people is on board with this new group of Cretins. We saved the trolley track trail. Midtown and the east side can decide for themselves. We all quit paying attention when Dejanes an Dan Coffey tried to make it in to a mouthpiece for Rex and Touhey.

There so far off the deep end now I'm starting to wonder if the streetcar was a good idea after all.

  29. Wait, so 2 years ago the city decides to take over the private ambulance service and incorporate it into the city run fire department. Now they want to outsource parts of the fire department to a private company? Sly can't make up damn mind what he wants to do.

You've pretty much described what passes for government in KCMO.
No vision; no plan; upside down priorities.
And decisions are made by choosing from among the endless line of salesmen, consultants, and other hacks that constantly litter the 22nd floor at city hall.
That's how you roll when you have neither a clue nor much interest in the actual responsiblities of being an elected city official.
And Sly will win re-elected because the was originally elected with just 22% of the registered voters and the residents of KCMO have pretty much given up on participating in such a scam of representative democracy.
