There's an important City Hall labor move coming up this week. Check it:
RIGHT NOW WORKERS ARE RAGING OVER AN OUTRAGEOUS KCFD OUTSOURCING ATTEMPT!!!
And it just occurred to me that this is pro-KCFD rank and file and a bit of follow-up about Kansas City Fire Department promises to stay loyal to their employees after the MAST takeover . . . A pledge that's now under suspicion.
Check the EXCLUSIVE TKC TIPSTER TESTIMONY explaining the sitch:
KCFD BROKEN PROMISES
There is a huge situation going on with the fire dept right now that needs some attention. Mayor Sly James, the City Manager, and Chief Berardi are attempting to outsource the KCFD billing division to a company out of Fort Lauderdale, FL.
22 of our hardworking employees that started with MAST, many of them 15-20+ years ago, and that have stuck through this failing merger, will lose their jobs. These people hold a combined 192 years of tenure. 88% of them are women. Most of them are single mothers, and most of them are minorities. They were promised a home with KCFD and a pension when this merger happened and now they are being discarded for what? To save the city money on personnel costs. That's it. They are the loyal, dedicated people that every day work with our patients one on one to help them settle their ambulance bills. Their years of experience has built a connection with the citizens in our community that is invaluable. They are certainly not replaceable by some out of state call center.
Today at the Public Safety & Emergency Services Committee meeting, some of the ladies who will be losing their jobs and the Presidents of Local 500 and Local 42 testified in an attempt to save their positions and keep our department intact. The ordinance was sent to full council with overwhelming opposition from the committee and a consequent do not pass recommendation.
The vote to accept the private company's contract and outsource will be tomorrow. Word from behind the scenes is that despite the clear absence of logic, due diligence, or justification, the Mayor is going to do what he can to push this deal through and outsource their jobs. The public should be made aware and outraged that this Mayor, who continually touts bringing jobs to Kansas City, is pushing to take jobs away from our own community and outsource them to another state. Could you please do what you can to spread the word and maybe help save these people's jobs?

So, let's get the straight. The call centers will be in Florida and how will that improve response times?
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure it says billing, not call center
DeleteSend your complaint to florida. They will be ignored.
ReplyDeletekc=Detroit.
Recall Sly James.
ReplyDeleteMayor James has outsourced trash collections and other city department duties. He's trying to save taxpayers money. These gals can go work for the new company with all that 192 years of experience!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the real world, fireboys. At least you've got a pension, which is virtually unheard of in this day and age. Still a pretty good gig for a high school diploma, huh?
ReplyDeleteI am all for the city saving money. Welcome to the real world; that is, the world outside of government. it's only been going on for ten years.
ReplyDeletesee ya! wouldn't want to BE ya!
Fuck KCFD! They are no better than thousands of Americans who have seen their jobs outsourced over the past decades. What the hell makes bureaucrats think they are untouchable and/or not replaceable with cheaper labor. Lets do the police department next and take some of those hot shots down a few notches while saving a small fortune for the tax payers.
ReplyDeleteso because it happened to other people you're saying that it should what happened to everyone that doesn't make it right.
DeleteIf it saves money, seems logical
ReplyDeleteup front it might seem logical and save money but the problem is is that all those people live in Kansas City so now what you've done is increased the unemployment rate and made it where there are more people looking for jobs in there are jobs therefore you will have all those people collecting unemployment off of the city so they will continue to get paid while the city then pays another company to do their job so really it's costing almost twice as much
DeleteBad enough to be outsourcing government work, but using a florida call center?? NOT ok!
ReplyDeleteWhat till they find out they have No Pensions. Union Bosses and reps stole it. Some smart guts on KCFD, you better start checking and doing the math.
ReplyDeleteguys/gals my bad
ReplyDeleteI hope they outsource the jobs of all you pieces of shit. Think about that the next time you hit the siren over a bullshit sign accusing a police officer of killing some drunk asshole who was assaulting him.
ReplyDelete7:14 nice try
ReplyDeleteI don't know who was the asshole, sounds like the Fire dude was an absolute dick and got fucked up, and picked on the wrong guy. If it wouldn't have been a cop he would have kicked ass and bragged about it.
ReplyDeleteFuck his rotting ass!
People scrambling everywhere to make it, just day to day..welcome to the party.consider yourselves lucky that you were there this long.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the new world.
Best get crackin on that job hunt
haha... people focus on local 42 and FF's because they have real power in this town, this bill is DOA... but corruption is just as rampant in the PD as it is in FD. dollar for dollar corrupt money is better spent at century towers though and everyone knows it.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure these former MAST employees were made promises by the city during the merger. Save money somewhere else. Close the zoo. It sucks anyway.
ReplyDeleteYou mean school districts, county courthouses, and city halls aren't just troughs for grifters and employment agencies for unqualified family and friends?
ReplyDeleteSly had better start making a whole bunch of speeches east of Troost to start spreading the word.
And cue the usual suspects in 5..4..3..2
Real talk!
ReplyDeleteKCFD asked for this, wait, they really threw a fit and demanded it. Blame the leadership. The KCFD leaders are CROOKS! They won't lose any sleep or money. Rank and file better wise up. Tax payers have paid already. Don't ask for more in the future.
ReplyDeleteA company that does millions of nearly identical transactions (instead of a few tens of thousands) should be able to get really good at it. That lowers unit costs and saves money. And, yes, the outsourced employees are probably paid less.
ReplyDeleteWhen you get bids to have someone redo your roof or replace your concrete drive, do you pick the highest bid? No, you pick the least expensive, quality option. KCMO should do the same.
Probably none of the current employees of MAST live in the City limits of Kansas City anyway. City residency was not a requirement for MAST. So what difference does it make to Kansas City??
ReplyDeleteThey are just billing clerks. Single black mothers that couldn't pick a dime off the ground. They should be let go, the city owes them nothing. You can be billed for ambulance services from anywhere. Cheaper the better. Plus , Obama care will solve all problems. No bills./
ReplyDeleteAttention clueless city council members: Please fire Troy Schulte and his 20 assistant city managers.
ReplyDeleteSorry Ladies, You are overpaid bill collectors .
ReplyDeleteHaven't been doing a very good job. They are hiring in Lenexa.
Sprint just let go 200 call center employees. Guarantee they could step right in. Less drama and more productivity.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just me but I find it really difficult to think "fireman" without prefacing it with "volunteer".
ReplyDeleteTake note firemen. Your 4 man pumpers can be "outsourced" into 3 man pumpers. Just like every other city in the metro. If you don't think this isn't coming, think again. You want a vision of the future? Look at Lees Summit or Independence. You WILL be going on EVERY SINGLE MEDICAL call. All 80,000 of them a year. Hope you like going without sleep for 24 hours.
ReplyDeleteFucking leadership is gonna send us all down the river with their stubborn arrogant ignorance and corruption.
ReplyDeleteOff subject, but here is a test that Mayor DeBlasio in New York says discriminates against blacks.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it, really.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/213380090/1999-NYC-Firefighter-Written-Test
This is such BS!!! They will outsource those jobs and then hire more Firemen. And then they will do something else stupid like they always do. When will they get new Ambulances for the EMT"S? The 4 man pumpers need to go also. KCFD is a legal racket and the city council and the city manager is crooked as hell. The mayor city council and city manager are bought and paid for by KCFD!!!
ReplyDeleteThe fire department gets by with age discrimination by a "special" statute in Missouri allows them not to hire anyone over 30, I am sure it has everything to do with the vestment time of their greedy pension, but hey no matter how you cut it - it is still age discrimination. Guess if I want to join the monkeys on KCFD I better put my app in I only have 12 months before I will be to old to work for a department that does nothing! Think I will pass - KCFDs rep is getting beyond deplorable in this shit town LOL
ReplyDeleteVery informative content !
ReplyDeleteGoing to read more of your articles
It has taken 4 years but I can finally smile, knowing I was right to fight the merger into the FD. I am glad I am retired and the funny part is, I got a good pension because I am older!
ReplyDeleteCreating jobs for these worthless nigger women, is just stupid. Too bad that they won't be able to continue to loaf around, drink beverages and not do their jobs, for a good paycheck. Wake up Kenesha, get yourself a real job, where you have to perform to keep it.
ReplyDeleteDo you see the word "ATTITUDE" written all over the face of that chimp sitting on the right side behind the white man. Damn, that sista b full of hate..... lol
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a great work environment with coworkers who call them niggers!
ReplyDeleteWell, that's probably how they truthfully act 7:50
ReplyDeleteEvery city that has done this has raised revenues. It is a no-brainer.
ReplyDeleteThis may be bad for the current employees, but GREAT for taxpayers. It is guaranteed that revenues will increase and expenses will decrease.
Way to go KCMO!
really how do you figure any of what you just said? Remember when they get fired they will still have to be paid unemployment they also will go on welfare other job assists so the city will be saddled with hang them the same amount if not more in the long run then when they were active employees in addition to the city still paying these new outsourced employees.
Deleteso basically you are sayingis that the city will be saving the taxpayers money by spending twice as much
Amazing the things people say when they're veiled by anonymity...
ReplyDeleteTruth hurts,huh 9:52.....
ReplyDeleteFire Troy Schulte.
ReplyDelete6:41 the only way you would know if those people are African Americans or women would ONLY be if you work in their building! With that said and your attitude I am assuming that makes for a hostile work environment when you are there ASSHOLE!!
ReplyDeleteMAST workers got fucked by the city and kcfd. every promise made to the old mast workers have been broken. when it was mast response times were excellent then the take over. here's something to think about, mast is now part of the fire dept. does the fire dept send you a bill for putting out a house fire? then why do we get a bill from the fire dept because of a medical emergency?
ReplyDelete@4:34 the workers the rude commenter was calling niggers were on Channel 2 pleading their case to keep their jobs. That's how they know they are black. but I don't have to work there to know that the first one to talk was Deborah West, she runs, or used to run a bunch of really sleezy male strip parties. So, looks to me like she has another job.
ReplyDeleteWhat's sad is the double payment city residents do. So think about this: you live in Raymore. You travel through the city and get in a wreck. An ambulance takes you to the hospital. Your bill is EXACTLY the same as a city resident.
ReplyDeleteAs a city resident you pay taxes to support to the fire department. You pay taxes to support the ambulance via the health levy. Do you get a discount on your bill? No. You subsidize everyone else that lives outside the city that uses the service.
Look at the rates of lees summit. They charge residents less than non residents to account for the fact that city residents pay taxes for the ambulance.
It's a shame to double pay. Welcome to KC!
That explains a lot, considering on and off is unknown to them. As a retired Escort it makes more sense why calls slowly began to change on Communications protocol collection days. After a while others talk and http://www.crimemagazine.com/firefighter-case-part-i
ReplyDeleteits been worse...
