Kansas City Councilman Duncan Rants Against Stadium Funding

Like it or not . . .

KCMO Councilman Jonathan Duncan is now the leading local elected official pushing back against taxpayer cash for stadiums without a public vote.

As we noted previously, this criticism makes him seem rather MAYORAL and a run for the top job at 12th & Oak wouldn't be much of a surprise given that the field still seems wide open and he would be the most progressive candidate KC has ever witnessed.

For now . . .

His rant on city hall steps deserves a closer look if only because it's a lot more polished and stronger than previous Palestine protest pins and arguments over conversion therapy . . . Check the tag and the clip for those who haven't seen it already . . . He starts the rant this way:;

"Public dollars are meant to fund public good."

Unfortunately, or by intent, the rant has a copyrighted track so uploading it to Youtube was a no go.

Instead, we'll start with this www.TonysKansasCity.com transcription . . .

"So, once again we spent most of the afternoon in city council committee talking about how we're going to pay for a FOR PROFIT stadium with our tax dollars. Money that you generate is going to go to a private baseball stadium. But today we didn't know: "How is this going to benefit you?" It is your money that is being used to pay for this stadium. We still don't understand the benefit. And I think that public dollars have to be used for public good and that public good isn't truly defined. We also found out that the 600 MILLION that was told to people . . . That was gonna cost for this stadium. It's only half of what we're actually going to pay.

"It's 1.3 BILLION dollars of taxes that'll be paying for a FOR-PROFIT baseballs stadium and we still don't understand the benefit.

"That ain't right."

Again, here's the link . . .

And we did take a sec to find that video in another online sharing location for our bloggy visitors who want to see the council dude in action . . .
