Mayor Q Promises Kansas City Conversion Therapy Ban Redux

Again, here's what we understand . . .

"In an 8-to-1 decision for Chiles v. Salazar, the Supreme Court ruled that Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy violated licensed counselors' First Amendment rights. The Court determined the law regulated "pure speech" rather than medical conduct, and unconstitutionally favored certain viewpoints over others."

In other words . . . SCOTUS affirms that religious speech is free speech.

In the aftermath . . .

Council Dude Duncan shared his regret . . .

And a petition emerged to UN-INVITE Mayor Q and council to annual Pride festivities.

Now . . .

CHECK MAYOR Q PROMISING NEW A KCMO CONVERSION THERAPY BAN DESPITE LEGAL CONCERNS!!!

For a moment . . .

SHOULD MAYOR & COUNCIL INVEST IN CRAFTING CONSTITUTIONAL LAW OR MAYBE JUST WORK ON MORE PRESSING LOCAL ISSUES?!?

Readers can probably guess our stance but we're opening up the question and sharing Mayor Q's pronouncement as recent newspaper coverage seems to have drawn his attention to the hot mess.

Check-it . . .

"Expect our new legislation to protect our people from heinous therapies here shortly, which I expect to be the toughest on the local level in the country."
