We're sharing this monthly note if only to note a truism . . .
The demise of the The Pitch, Kansas City's mostly defunct formerly alternative mag, has been painful for fans to watch.
Last year, with the help of AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS, we noted that they stopped printing. The mag denied it and EVEN WORSE . . . Local media didn't care as the publisher played for time by struggling to produce a handful of copies despite the fact that their local newstands remain empty junk cluttering local streets.
There's nothing shameful about their blog offerings and vibrant events . . . In fact, that seems to be the new revenue model for the hipster mag . . . Most of their content is syndicated from better sources. They sling together a few cranky editorials and even a fun report every now and then and seem to earn the bulk of their income from hipsters who still love the brand.
Sadly . . . The local coverage, perspective and reporting is mostly kaput.
UPDATE: We do notice that they printed a few smaller paper copies of this issue and gave up their glossy endeavors.
Finally . . .
We notice their editorial letters are far less "triumphant" and this screed mostly serves to share the VisitKC company line . . . That isn't very "alternative" at all . . . Take a peek . . .
"The well-earned KC clichés of burnt ends and beer remain, and many visitors, likely most, will seek them out.
"But I have to think that if our overall first impression for visitors is a warm welcome—by showing some attention to detail in cultural diversity—the quintessentially KC elements will be that much better received. It’s a smart strategy of making something comfortable by blending the new with the familiar."
