Kansas City Museum Displays Vandalized Statue Shoes After Fake News

Think back to earlier this year . . .

The Pulitzer Prize winning pundit for The Kansas City Star said this "crime" was akin to a racist lynching. 

And then . . .

Authorities reported otherwise: 

Jackie Robinson statue theft: 45-year-old man arrested was not motivated by race, police say

Now . . . 

From a strictly aesthetic perspective and despite good intentions, the statue was mediocre at best. 

Still, locals offer tribute to the idea behind the icon and not the craftsmanship of the display or lack thereof . . .

Check-it: 

The shoes are all that were salvageable after the life-sized statue was stolen from McAdams Park in Wichita, Kansas, on January 25, police said — just days before Robinson’s 105th birthday and the start of Black History Month.

At a ceremony Thursday on the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum’s “Field of Legends” display, museum President Bob Kendrick formally accepted the remnants in front of a crowd of baseball fans and visitors to the Historic 18th and Vine district.

Cleats from defaced Jackie Robinson statue get new home in Kansas City baseball museum

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum accepted on Thursday the remnants of the vandalized statue. The cleats will be added to an existing exhibit about the first Black American to break Major League Baseball's color barrier.
