Will KC Tenants Power Obey Campaign Finance Reporting Rules?!?

Tonight we consider "the rules" of the political game and how they might or might not apply locally.

Big picture . . .

The Prez currently confronts questions about his finances.

Meanwhile . . .

Former Prez Trump faces federal indictment regarding top secrets.

Accordingly . . .

Documentation is a big deal. Even in Kansas City politics.

And that brings us to an upstart Kansas City political action committee that earned adoring coverage from none other than the New York Times . . .

There's no denying the rising influence of KC Tenants Power.

But . . .

Their campaign finance reporting leaves a lot to be desired.

A KICK-ASS TKC READER sent us this note . . .

"Why doesn't KC Tenants Power have to disclose their contributors like everyone else that sends out mailers???  KC Tenants Power has sent out mailers endorsing their candidates but if you look at the MO Ethics website. There's no info on their funding, not even small or in-kind donations.  You would think the media would be investigating this."

We can answer some of this question . . .

KC Tenants Power still has a bit of time to file disclosures and then even more allowances for delays and reporting after the election.

Still . . . The criticism is fair . . . So far, KC Tenants Power hasn't offered much in the way of transparency when it comes to their funders. They have touted "grassroots" support but, even that, at some point will require documentation.

We don't want this group to feel like we're picking on them . . .

Locals can do their own research and check the dearth of info reported on the Missouri Ethics campaign site.

Contrast that with a bevy of public info from more established groups like Freedom, Inc

Or even newly funded Northland Strong

Again, we want to be fair in this post and should note that both of those groups are on opposite sides of the political spectrum very often.

UPDATE: Heck, thinking about this topic even more and realized that even the po-po union is sharing more public info.

Bottom line from our www.TonysKansasCity.com blog community . . .

If KC Tenants Power wants to talk about reform, transparency, accountability and grassroots advocacy . . . That conversation starts with open campaign finance reporting.

You decide . . .
