Again and again . . . We struggle to stifle our own opinion on this blog in an attempt to understand the greater truth . . . Often, TKC is forced to realize that it's our job to ask the questions around this dump.
And so, tonight, we share this tongue twister perspective and interrogatory with our group of faithful curmudgeons on both sides of the aisle:
WILL KANSAS CITY RIOT FOR CAMERON LAMB IF GUV PARSON PARDONS FORMER KCPD DETECTIVE DEVALKENAERE?!?
Or . . .
IS THE THREAT OF KANSAS CITY RIOTING OVER LEGAL PROCEEDINGS SOME OF THE MOST IRRESPONSIBLE & REPUGNANT POLITICAL RHETORIC WE'VE WITNESSED FROM LOCAL LEADERS?!?
About the rioting . . .
Remember that the George Floyd BLM riots/uprising was the result of soul crushing video in a case wherein a cop was convicted of murder and as the nation's temper was turned up to 11 amid COVID lockdowns at the outset of election season.
Meanwhile . . .
This local case was always more murky . . . Cameron Lamb was a very handsome young man and he might have had a bright future . . . But here's how police supporters describe him and nobody has challenged them on their depiction:
"Cameron Lamb had beat his girlfriend, later got into another altercation with her, and chased her IN A STOLEN TRUCK through the streets of Kansas City while CARRYING A STOLEN GUN . . . DET. DEVALKENAERE IS INNOCENT. HIS ACTIONS WERE COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED AND SAVED DET. SCHWALM’S LIFE. HE IS A HERO NOT A CRIMINAL."
Again . . .
This TKC isn't really ABOUT advocacy . . .
Instead . . .
We merely SHARE our take on THE KANSAS CITY DISCOURSE.
And these words seem exceptionally relevant ahead of what could be a groundbreaking pardon, possibly a riot and yet another culture war point of contention . . .
Emanuel Cleaver III, senior pastor at St. James United Methodist Church, expressed concern about the “harm to the city” that would follow if Parson uses his unlimited power to grant pardons in DeValkenaere’s case.
“Governor, if you pardon DeValkenaere, you will create more tension in the city and we will be left to pick up the pieces while you are not here,” Cleaver said. “... We’re pleading with the governor, ‘Please reconsider.’”
