Kansas City Parks Board Barely Survives Latest Takeover Effort

Whilst locals were screaming about the latest injustice dominated the discussion at city hall this week, a significant takeover attempt persists.

According to insiders . . .

BEHIND THE SCENES THE KANSAS CITY PARKS BOARD ALMOST MET WITH AN UNTIMELY DEMISE THIS WEEK!!!

We've been talking about this since last year but recently we garnered a bit more perspective on the power move that will be a priority after election season.

Here are the basics . . .

The move to dissolve the Parks Board by way of charter change hopes to remove "political appointees" and bring the operation inside city hall.

Basically . . . It's another flex under the guise of "local control" but there are two things that locals aren't watching . . .

The Parks Board is the last vestige of old school Kansas City wherein volunteer and community leaders can provide a layer of protection against 12th & Oak corruption.

These tireless local luminaries dedicate countless hours to keep Kansas City beautiful, preserve historic and iconic local parcels of land and prevent this blessed little cowtown from looking like New Jersey.

But more importantly . . .

THE KANSAS CITY PARKS BOARD TAKEOVER IS ABOUT MONEY & LAND!!!

It's a cash grab plain & simple . . . Moreover . . . So much of the land under the authority of the Parks Board would fall directly into the hands of Mayor & Council upon the dissolution of the Parks Board.

That would expose KC Parks land to some interesting political whims like homeless housing or even more sanctuary space . . . For whomever.

In the current configuration . . . The KC Parks Board remains a civic honor and something that quite a few locals take seriously.

The current administration wants to strip away this part of Kansas City history in order to loot this town's green space and capture more funding. Look closely . . . There are now only three Parks Board commissioners -- The bare minimum to keep the organization running.

And all of this brings us to round one of the debate that was mostly played behind the scenes and, thankfully, shut down Park Board destruction for the moment.

Still . . . Make no mistake . . . This won't be the last effort to garner more control of a historic institution that protects Kansas City from so many corrupt political whims.

Developing . . .
