Jackson County Prosecutor Denounces 'Political Tribalism' In Report

Reality check . . .

There are very few real journalists working in Kansas City. Even a mere decade ago, if the Prosecutor's Office released a bombastic and politically charged statement in defense its actions . . . It would have been big news.

Now . . . Most Kansas City reporters ignored the pronouncement and instead we're inundated by about 5 dozen stories about the Super Bowl.

Still . . . The statement remains important nevertheless . . . The basics:

MEAN JEAN BLAMES POLITICS FOR SOME OF THE MOST UNPOPULAR DECISIONS DURING HER TENURE!!!

Context . . .

In her 2022 report Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker defends her decision to decline charges after a Kansas City Firefighter was shot to death by a bystander girlfriend of a combatant during an altercation.

The report juxtaposes this decision with actions following false social media testimony regarding a woman with a gun who was shot by police.

Again . . . Agree or disagree . . . We think the the words are important.

Here is the basics of her argument against ongoing criticism confronting her office . . .

"Those who leveled threats and were unwilling to accept the facts due to their own ideology fanned the flames of political discord. They invoked nonsensical, unsubstantiated, and irrational racial motivations to these tragic matters. They have critiqued our office’s efforts to address racial disparities imbued in the criminal justice system. Let us remember that our employees are public servants who offer their careers and lives. They work hard to uphold the rule of law and to be fair and neutral ministers of justice, no matter the threat."
