TKC Sneak Peek: Here's How The KC Tenants Power Election Endorsement Process Works

In the fall of last year none other than The New York Times trumpeted the rise of a new political action powerhouse in Kansas City

We were deservedly skeptical but now some moderately impressive campaign finance reports and one of their candidates making a bit of headway has caused us to take thee group a bit more seriously.

OR . . . At the very least . . . Witness their foray into municipal politics with a bit more attention.

Accordingly . . .

KICK-ASS KANSAS CITY INSIDERS SHARE THE KC TENANTS POWER ENDORSEMENT PROCESS WITH OUR BLOG COMMUNITY!!!

Look closely . . .

They seem to be at least aware of the Missouri Ethics laws that govern their activities and lesser groups have had trouble navigating this process . . .

> KC TENANTS POWER
>
> KC Tenants Power is led by tenants organizing to take our city back and house the people. We are the sibling organization to KC Tenants, Kansas City’s citywide tenant union, and governed by a separate board. We are focused on winning governing power for tenants. KC Tenants Power is a 501(c)(4) organization that has held community listening sessions that have engaged thousands of our neighbors, knocked over 21,000 doors to win a $50 million bond for truly affordable housing, and more. This spring we will publicize a platform and issue endorsements to candidates in the municipal elections.

> PRIMARY ENDORSEMENT PROCESS
>
> We believe the people closest to the problems are closest to the solutions. We believe in collective and democratic decision-making. No individual speaks for our organization. Endorsement decisions will be made through a months-long process involving our full base.
>
> We will assess candidates based on their background, positions/past votes on a broad range of important issues, public statements, campaign financing, responses to our questionnaire, performance at our candidate forum, and willingness to sign our co-governance pledge. Our base will then vote on a final endorsement, representing the support of over 5,000 KC Tenants Power supporters across Kansas City.
