Woke Broke Redux: Progressive Kansas City 'Bier Station' Sells Out

A local bastion of feisty and somewhat radical politics abandoned their business hopes & dreams today.

More to the point . . .

BIER STATION LOVED TO "DUNK" ON CONSERVATIVES BUT NOW IT SEEMS THEY'VE GONE UNDER AND SELL TO A MORE SUCCESSFUL BEER BIZ THAT DOESN'T REALLY ENGAGE IN POLITICS!!!

Proof . .

Here's a glowing review from The Pitch that might have been the first sign that they were in trouble . . .

"John Couture, owner of Bier Station in Waldo, is not most people. He openly supports progressive causes on the Bier Station social media pages and with fundraising events for causes he believes in. As he recently posed on Facebook by quoting Dolemite, “How high are the stakes and whose side am I on?”"

Sure . . .

The Josh Hawley "fun run" was clever but apparently not enough to boost sales

To be fair . . .

Running a craft brewery is a dicey biz with a lot of competition and a very short half-life.

However . . .

Critics might be justified in razzing this biz given that some of their workers were more than happy to troll conservatives via Twitter rather than thinking about the future of their operation.

Accordingly . . .

Here's today's postscript . . .

Current owner John Couture announced Monday he has reached an agreement with City Barrel owners to purchase Bier Garden and its building.

City Barrel currently operates a brewery and pub in Kansas City's Crossroads districts. Couture wrote on Facebook that City Barrel's owners have been interested in opening a second taproom in Waldo.

Even more interestingly . . .

The owner cites his love of politics in his swan song letter . . .

"While I enjoy beer, my true passion lies with political activism and working for wonderful causes. I feel I have more to offer in the community and I want to move in that direction. I also believe City Barrel is a terrific, local company that will build on the craft-beer focus Bier Station had developed. I’m friends with all the City Barrel owners and two of them live in our neighborhood."
