Kansas City Friday Amendment 4 Face-Off: Farce Or Police Defund???

Kansas City, Missouri choice on cash for the cops might be the most important LOCAL decision amid upcoming midterm elections.

And yet . . . Even this issue is a bit of an anti-climax according to insiders.

Remember . . .

Polling indicates 64 percent voter support in order to provide more funding for Kansas City police.

Of course the argument is that Missouri voters shouldn't have any say at all . . . There's a nonsense "taxation without representation" debate which doesn't really make sense and ignores so many lobbyists on KCMO's pay roll asking Jeff City for money every session.

Moreover . . .

This is also worthy of consideration no matter how we frame the issue . . .

MAYOR Q SPENDS EPIC CASH ON HIS FIGHT TO CONTROL POLICE MONEY!!!

So far police supporters say the total could reach nearly half a million bucks.

However . . .

Given that U.S. dollars are quickly turning into confetti . . . We're far more amused by the legal debate and slap fight over a definition of terms in a ballot choice that's basically been decided and won't do much but stir up divisive local sentiment in the midst of a historic homicide surge.

Accordingly . . .

Check both sides of the debate . . .

"Mayor Quinton Lucas is on his way to spending nearly half a million dollars of taxpayer funds – including on a $1,000-an-hour New York lawyer – in a lawsuit over police funding that is arguably premature and quite possibly dead on arrival.

"That’s according to the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners, which has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit because the case “is not ripe for adjudication.” The board notes that the new Missouri law at the heart of the dispute isn’t even close to being put into effect – and that, regardless, voters will decide in just a few weeks whether or not it will be."

To which the mayor replies . . .

"Kansas City Council has "fully funded" the KCPD. We know. And, we know the "defund" mantra behind Amendment 4 is a farce."

KC Mayor Quinton Lucas using up to $450,000 in tax dollars to fund a lawsuit that could be dead on arrival

Lucas’ lawsuit to prevent a state-ordered rise in KC police funding – a lawsuit he is pressing as a private citizen, but bizarrely with taxpayer funds – is filed against the Board of Police Commissioners, the state of Missouri and state Attorney General Eric Schmitt.

Or . . .

You decide . . .
