KANSAS CITY FIREFIGHTERS PLAN RESIDENCY RULE FIGHT!!!

A landmark decision by the Kansas City Police Board has implications for all city employees.

To wit and because KCFD rank & file have been arguing against residency requirements for most of the modern era . . . Now that KCPD can move to the promised land in Kansas . . .

KCFD LEADERS HAVE ALREADY STARTED LOBBYING LOCAL POLITICOS TO CHANGE RESIDENCY RULES FOR FIREFIGHTERS!!!

Those of us who REALLY know local politics understand that the FD have wanted out of KC proper for MUCH LONGER than police.

Year after year fire fighter lobbyists have tried to introduce Missouri legislation liberating KCFD from residency rules

Now the flood gates are open . . .

Accordingly . . .

New talk of changing residency regs for KCFD hopes to put pressure on elected officials just in time for campaign season . . . Meanwhile, Local 42 threatens to use the issue as a litmus test for any council member who wants their support.

Even better/worse . . .

The union led effort is quickly trickling down to other KCMO workers . . . There's now not much justification for KCMO residency rules at all. . . White collar workers might not even have to cross state line to labor on behalf of KC if they can hold onto pandemic teleworking gigs.

And so . . .

Skeptics like TKC might argue that we're seeing the start of another Kansas City exodus thanks to pointless partisan fighting with Jeff City.

Meanwhile, it'll be difficult to sell a bright future of this cowtown given that fewer & fewer people seem to want to live here . . .

Developing . . .
