KCPD NOW CAN MOVE TO KANSAS!!!

The downfall of residency requirements might have been inevitable but most in our blog community believe that it's a direct result of so much animosity betwixt 12th & Oak vs. the Missouri GOP Super Majority.

Nevertheless . . .

THERE'S NO DENYING TODAY'S POLICE BOARD DECISION ALLOWING KCPD TO RESIDE IN SOME OF THE BEAUTIFUL SUBURBS OF JOHNSON COUNTY, KANSAS WILL BE GREETED WITH JUBILATION!!!

C'mon man . . .

JoCo beats crossing the bridge and living near cows and "sons of the soil" in the Northland.

However, allow us a bit of reasonable skepticism . . .

There is also no denying this move also threatens to impact the reputation and public regard of KCPD. Why? A division betwixt police & populace has already occurred in NYC wherein law enforcement is often viewed as an "occupying force" because so many officers live outside of the five boroughs.

It's not a logical leap to believe worsening negative sentiment toward police over residency requirements can quickly take hold in KCMO.

And, again, all of this seems to be a direct result of an increasingly politically hostile relationship amongst progressive KCMO Vs. right-wing Jeff City.

Here's more deets on today's decision . . .

The board voted 4-1 on Tuesday to change its residency requirements, with only Mayor Quinton Lucas voting against the proposal.

Officers will now have to live within 30 miles of the state line but can now live in the Sunflower State.

Under the previous policy, officers were able to live within 30 miles of the city limits -- but only in Missouri. That change came last summer after Missouri relaxed the department’s residency requirements on a legislative level.
