Because lawyers at 12th & Oak lose a surprising number of legal fights that come their way, Mayor Q is looking for help.
Sadly, the upcoming courtroom battle that KICK-ASS TKC READERS predicted at the outset of this month is going to be expensive.
In fact . . .
KANSAS CITY'S LATEST POLICE DEFUND LEGAL BATTLE WILL START WITH A PRICE TAG OF AT LEAST HALF A MILLION BUCKS!!!
Here's the money line . . .
Kansas City is considering spending almost a half-million dollars to hire outside legal counsel to fight a bill that would force the city to increase its funding of the police department by 5%.
The city is currently obligated to give the police department, which is under state control, 20% of its annual general revenue. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer, a Parkville Republican, would require Kansas City to commit at least 25%.
Again, this blog tidbit isn't so surprising considering that our blog community has known about it for months.
And, of course, we remember that Mayor Q actually lost this legal fight against the police board last time around.
