Kansas City Sunday Night: Vicente Fernández Curtain Call & News Links

Tonight it occurred to me that Latinos/Hispanics have been Kansas City's largest growing minority group for nearly 30 years and yet most local news outlets don't have anybody on staff who knows why the passing Vicente Fernández is a big deal.

Sadly, Bianca Beltrán moved to Boston and I guess somebody forgot to nudge Mary Sanchez and "encourage" her to provide her progressive friends some street cred with a few manufactured memories.

Fact is . . .

If you haven't heard a drunk, chubby relative, grandfather, friend or vagrant mangle one of Vicente's songs then you're coming to the party late.

Moreover . . .

Even Prez Biden is marking the passing.

Juxtaposition . . .

Pop culture context for the general public . . . This is akin to Elvis, Frank Sinatra and Justin Bieber passing on the same day.

And so, to offer our readers a sense of "place" in the Americas and to provide just a peek at where this blog is coming from . . . We'll share a few links about about the Mexican icon along with pop culture, community news and more top headlines . . .

Final note . . .
