Kansas City 2021 Homicide #105: Deadly Jazz District Shooting

For those who have already forgotten, the 18th & Vine Jazz district will soon be imposing more taxes on biz and customers in the area by way of establishing a "Community Improvement District" - Leaders hope that the funds raised by this tax will help pay for more security and services that reduce crime. 

After a mass shooting started the year and the spate of violence continues in this embattled entertainment venue . . . Let's hope their calculations are correct . . . Given that KCMO has already spent 100 MILLION bucks on this project so far.

Homicide 1900 block of Vine

This morning at 10 minutes after midnight officers were dispatched initially to the area of 18th and Vine on a shooting call.

On arrival officers located evidence of a crime scene south of 19th and Vine in the street.

At the same time officers arrived to the scene they were notified that a shooting victim arrived at the hospital by way of private vehicle.  That victim, an adult male, was declared deceased at the hospital.

Preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred in the street south of 19th and Vine.

Detectives believe that multiple people were nearby the area and may have information about what led up to the shooting.  They would like to speak to anyone that has any information.

At this time detectives are canvassing the area for any witnesses and crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence.

If anyone has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 234-5043 or the TIPS hotline anonymously at 474-TIPS.  There is a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case

A police spokesperson said the department received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the area just after midnight Wednesday. When officers arrived at the location, they found evidence of a crime scene near 19th and Vine streets.
