Compare & Contrast Community Meetings On Police Funding

First a note . . .

All of these Kansas City residents simply want what they think is best for their community.

Of course our biz is snark and we love a good measuring contest wherein we can observe from a safe distance.

Still . . . TKC commends ANYONE willing to get off the couch and/or out of the basement in order to attend a community meeting. It's a level of commitment that MOST people are unwilling to offer.

Accordingly . . .

Organizers for a Saturday East side meeting in support of Mayor Q and the council majority police funding "reallocation" plan hoped to achieve the same turnout as Northland rallies in support of po-po. They did not meet that goal.

Moreover . . .

It was hard to find a wide shot of the event that was covered dutifully by KCTV5 but we'll be generous and estimate that about 3 dozen people attended this urban core community meeting organized by The Call Newspaper and supported by Mayor Q and many members of council.

UPDATE . . .

Special thanks to Eric Wesson, managing editor at The Call. He shared insight about the event and reports about 85 to100 people attended the community forum which was organized quickly and earned an 'encouraging' response according to planners.

Again, these are good people who took time out of their schedule to learn more about the Mayor's plans.

Even better, online video offers a glimpse at the conversation and so many council members hoping to challenge "the system' with their ordinance that now confronts a lawsuit and a myriad of legal push back.

However . . .

Let's juxtapose East side turnout against PACKED NORTHLAND GATHERINGS wherein the mayor was too scared to even show up and sent one of his staff to earn rebuke on the nice side of the bridge.

Or . . .

How about a Northland meeting wherein HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE offered support for the police and the crowd was so substantial that D.C. conservative interests were selling merch.

And so we check both sides of the conversation and come to this conclusion . . .

DO THE MATH!!! DEFUND THE POLICE IS A LOSER AND THESE PUBLIC MEETINGS OFFER A PREVIEW OF THE VOTER SMACK DOWN THAT'S JUST GETTING STARTED!!!

So while Mayor Q claims that he's ready to take this fight to the Supreme Court. A quick look at the crowds and people voting with their feet reveal that support for po-po is far more enthusiastic than voter sympathy for yet another city hall slush fund in the making.

You decide . . .
