Shawnee Mission North High School Cancels Indians Mascot And Replaces With Bison

We skipped this culture war note yesterday but it's worth revisiting . . .

Check the end of an era in Johnson County and new rules for the mostly white working-class denizens of this institution . . .

About our graphic choice . . .

Of course the bison moniker probably refers to the largest land mammal in North America (other than Lena Dunham) . . .

However, we're thinking that the mascot might actually garner a bit of gamer street cred as a reference to M.Bison - The evil character in one of the very few worthwhile video game to movie adaptations; Street Fighter II.

Sure . . . An early 90s animated trash movie might not inspire students to championship level achievement. But it's a more powerful narrative than a whole community caving to the whims of wanna-be middle-class 'Karen' housewives.

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. if we work hard enough we can eliminate all references to indigenous people... then everything will be cool again

  2. Not a good mascot. The bison has more intelligence and literacy than the students.

  3. ^^^^^
The bison also have more courage than the "leaders" folding up and making these stupid decisions.
Maybe some animals will run for office!

  4. More idiot libs at work. Typical, typical.

  5. The situation on Indian Reservations are dismal. There's no glory in celebrating driving another race into extinction.

  6. My experience at SMN was the mascot was a way to honor Native Americans - a constant reminder of whose land we are on, the cultures that preceded us, etc. It won't be long before all references to native Americans are removed and we will not have these reminders. Sad

  7. Excellent! Now the problems of alcoholism mental illness, and spousal abuse on reservations are cured! The real and substantial socioeconomic issues facing native Americans are a thing of the past.

And to think, all it took was an empty virtue-signaling gesture! Glad that's over. Let's get a latte and tweet about how awesome we are.

  8. Why we were honoring the memory of a civilization that did nothing but play with sticks and feathers for 30 thousand a years was hard to understand in the first place. Dust to dust indeed.

  9. Never hears of Kahokia or Poverty Point or Mesa Verde or any of those places have you @10:24?

    1. Who cares? You make 10:24's point. Primitives who couldn't cope with the simplest environmental pressures.

  10. Yup, and continued failing to cope for thousands of years.
While the ancestors of the guy posting @10:24 and supporting himself @12:24 starved in Europe.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be happier if we stopped wasting tax dollars on School Sports but could care less what some dumb-assed High School Team calls themselves.

I just feel that some basemnt dweller that couldn't waddle tge width of a Basketball Court has any place calling anyone "primitive".

    1. Why? They were primitive. It's a perfect adjective to describe them, and has little to do with physical fitness.

  11. Are they making fun of the Buffalo soldiers ? PC queerbaits need to know

  12. I worry more about the students. A girl back a while ago named Kim slept with many guys, got out of school, no college, but did a porm movie with a couple local guys, slept around, cheated on new husbsnd then divorced, had to move to a rural area in Kansas to avoid her reputation.

  13. I have the sex video of Kim, Bob gave copy to me!
