KANSAS CITY QUESTION: IS MAYOR Q WORSENING HOMELESS CRISIS BY NEGOTIATING & OFFERING FREE HOTEL ROOMS TO TENT CAMP ACTIVISTS?!?

This week Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas convened with homeless leaders over the course of four days in order to negotiate a solution and conclude a tent camp protest.

The talks were motivated by escalating violence at homeless camps.

Check news confirmation of a story our blog community reported FIRST . . .

Fox4: Man charged for machete attack near camp downtown Kansas City

The latest . . .

KANSAS CITY MAYOR Q PROMISES HOMELESS PROTESTERS HOTEL ROOMS AND LONG-TERM HOUSING ASSISTANCE!!!

His latest volley of tweets seems exceptionally generous and hopeful now that the E-Tax has passed.

Here's a mix of coverage from MSM who seems to be patiently awaiting a solution that starts with 500 free rooms for an indefinite period of time . . .

KCTV5: KC mayor to meet again with tent city reps as homeless are told they will have to leave

KSHB: 'I do feel progress': Mayor Quinton Lucas, homeless union inch closer to solutions

WDAF: First Amendment doesn’t mean KC homeless camps can stay permanently, expert says

Meanwhile . . .

Violence and a worsening trash problem persist at the two camp sites. Sadly, there is no hint of compensation to small biz owners who have suffered petty crime and customers chased away by this gathering.

And so we ask . . .

HAS MAYOR Q EMBOLDENED PROTESTERS AND ENDANGERED NEIGHBORHOODS WITH HIS CHARITABLE ATTEMPT TO COMPROMISE WITH ACTIVISTS!?!?

The MSM view . . .

KMBC: KCMO reaches agreement with homeless to remove camps from City Hall, Westport

In conclusion . . .

Look closely at the conversation and there's already hope to move homeless denizens into "more affluent neighborhoods" and distribute the "responsibility" of Kansas City residents.

You decide . . .

who will pay for the trash pickup? I hope it will not be charged to business owners nearby.

    2. Put them in the new convention hotel. It's wide open baby.

  2. Move them to Loose Park and the medians along Ward Parkway. Problem solved these are the people that drop food, clothing and other supplies. They need to get jobs.

  3. I bet Hotel Lucas won't be near the mayor's residence.

  4. This mayor has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was the wrong choice in the last mayoral election. Fooled me once, never again.

  6. KC needs more flop houses. Sounds like Mayor Q is on top of this one.

  7. Does the city not own a bunch of bare ground down by the river for these bums to live on? I mean lets call them by their true name, BUMS! They are just losers like Byron Funkhouser who have not figured out how to scam the system along with a live in so called wife. I'm sure the Port Authority has space for the BUMS where the BUMS won't bother anyone.

  8. Agree that Jolie would have done the same. Probably would have offered them hormone therapy at no cost.

Since its inception, Homeless Garden Project has helped close to 1,000 people. Over the past five years, 96 percent of graduates have obtained jobs or stable income and 86 percent have found housing. City Councilwoman JuCoby Pittman visited the camp on Wednesday night said she is excited about the resources coming together to form the temporary shelter.

“It’s in a safe environment," Pittman explained. "It has all of the comprehensive services that’s needed."

The overnight shelter will be open for 30 days and connect people to resources like bathrooms and showers, medical, employment and social services along with food, water and hygiene kits.

  14. Negotiating with the mentally ill always ends well . . . and some of these "homeless leaders" appear to be people who have forgotten to take their meds for a decade or so.

Lucas's entire career plan is about taking half-ass actions that will look good in the lefty press, that make him appear caring and compassionate (of which he is neither . . . he's a narcissist who wants a seat at the table in DC).

Making a decision based on facts and reality, seeking solutions that produce positive and tangible results, is not part of his upwardly mobile equation.

  16. IS MAYOR Q WORSENING HOMELESS CRISIS BY NEGOTIATING & OFFERING FREE HOTEL ROOMS TO TENT CAMP ACTIVISTS?!?

    No.

    Any other questions?

  17. If the homeless who were camping out on the lawn at city hall get hotel rooms and other services, what about all the other homeless people who weren't part of the "activist protest"?
This latest by Lucas is even more irresponsible than the fiasco at Bartle Hall.
An endless series of short term "say anything to get out the room" statements with no thought whatsoever given to the longer-term consequences.
Meanwhile, the real needs of the vast majority of KCMO residents goes unaddressed.
    Fix the streets!
    Address the homicides!
    Get the budget under control!
The city needs a mayor, not someone playing at being a social worker.
    Sad.

  18. Forget about everything that happened when Sly James was Mayor. KC Homeless Union are rank and file unionist.

  19. hate to sound heartless, but this town proliferates in organizations that help the homeless, which tends to attract more homeless here, seeking 'services', attracted to the beacon on the prairies

the litter problem is atrocious downtown, especially the north loop area etc. river market etc., one off main sources is the homeles population

  20. Actually relocating them to Berkeley Riverfront Park makes sense. Give them fishing poles, tackle and bait ("teach a man to fish....")

My second choice would be Swope Park. Lots space available there, and plenty of varmints they could catch and eat.

My third choice is MLK Jr. Park. That would soon take care of the bum population, permanently.

  21. If the boy blunder had handled this properly from the beginning like a real mayor none of this would have happened.

Everything he touches goes from bad to worse, worst mayor and politician wannabe to walk the earth.

  23. Put them in hotel rooms and there's about a 110% chance they'll tear the shit out the place. And refuse to leave all over again. And probably shit in the hallways.

  24. You can tell that Mayor Q has poor negotiation skills. He obviously didn't learn from his mom that NO means NO! If you draw a line in the sand you don't allow the other party to cross it without dishing out real punishment's. If this guy was a father he would have the worlds worst kids because he would allow them to walk all over him. If I were Mayor and I said "You can't camp out on city property after Sunday" then by Monday they would be gone or in jail. Period! Spineless bastard.

Real leader? He's not even a real man!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Not sure if that's the case. The man who stabbed a homeless man shouting "Police" obviously has issue that should be attended to now that he is detained in custody. There was also a schitzo man who called 911 and got someone attacked at the camp by KCPD. But to say there's an entire section of the homeless that are in the working class, then disabled persons are merely a section of the working class who happen to be homeless. It takes labor organizing with rank and file unionism

  27. Jeez..suppose you on of the few biz people actually needing to use a hotel for a visit to KC..you go to check in.. and the place is crawlin' with bums! WTF!!??

  28. Just listened to him talking in his Aldi Obama voice in his news conference. Piece of shit. The bums will NEVER leave and keep demanding more. He creates more and bigger problems with everything he touches.

  29. Wait, what? Aidi Amin lived in exile in Saudi Arabia but thank you for not comparing Mayor Lucas to Nelson Mandela who wrote the Mandela Rules For Treatment Of Prisoners. After all these folks have been to prison and ejected into the parks and flood plains of the Kansas City Metro

  30. They won’t reveal the names of the hotels they’re putting the bums in to respect their privacy.” Uh huh. You don’t want to let any paying guests know they’ll be staying in a hotel with dangerous bums and drug addicts.

  31. Professor Mary Lucas is a disaster for Kansas City.

The filth, the crime, the trash, the potholes are horrific under his tenure.

Never hire a University professor as they have no common sense or work experience; just hair-brained ideology.

  32. Someone get a case of Natty Lite and a bulldozer down to the City Hall lawn. Give Fat Andy's son the keys to the dozer and Brit will clear out the hobo camp within minutes; faster than the vigilantes in the Grapes of Wrath.

if it’s on twitter it must be true amirite!

Let’s see him lie to the world once the real truth about him gets out.

  37. A secluded mini-compound tucked into L.A.’s rustic and semi-remote Topanga Canyon was recently sold for a tad more than $1.4 million to a corporate entity that public records show is controlled by Patrisse Khan-Cullors, 37-year-old social justice visionary and co-founder of the galvanizing and, for some, controversial Black Lives Matter movement.

Kahn-Cullors, a UCLA and USC graduate married about five years ago to social activist (and amateur boxer) Janaya Khan, co-founder of Black Lives Matter Toronto, created the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag in 2013 in response to George Zimmerman’s acquittal in the 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin. Since then, the largely decentralized movement has been at the influential forefront on issues of police brutality and racially motivated violence against Black people, particularly in the wake of George Floyd’s killing last summer that sparked massive protests across the United States and around the globe. Kahn-Cullors’ published “When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir” in 2018.
