A not-so-fun fact of life signals "momentum" for Kansas City now moves in a very dire direction and this cowtown must now cope with the economic reality of post-COVID life.
Latest on the taxpayer funded bad deal . . .
"Waddell & Reed does not plan to move into a downtown Kansas City tower designed as its new corporate headquarters after it merges with Australia’s Macquarie Group.
"That news comes after the financial services company announced it would lay off more than 200 employees as part of the merger. The company had been planning to move into a new $140 million tower that is currently under construction."
To wit . . .
TKC READERS TOLD YOU SO!!! COVID KILLED THE DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY RENAISSANCE!!!
Update with links . . .
KSHB: Waddell & Reed announces layoffs; won't move to downtown headquarters under construction
KCUR: After Securing Big Tax Breaks, Waddell & Reed Won’t Move To Kansas City After All
Developing . . . Or not . . .
Thanks Trump!
ReplyDelete^^^
DeleteDon't forget to thank Kamala!
ReplyDeleteno shit...who would want to work downtown..with all the Democrap looters and rioters. urban scholars car burnouts, bums.. get mugged, or have cars broken into..
no thanks!
^^^
ReplyDeleteLulz. Don't worry about. We don't need any more toilet cleaners. CHUD.
^^^ that’s right chimpy, you’re cancelled immediately! Hahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteThe downtown renaissance was always hanging by a thread, if it weren’t for sLIE and lickass bribing developers with our tax money to come here we wouldn’t be in the financial mess we are in now.
ReplyDeletefunny thing was this was one of the last incentives for moving from KS to Mo
ReplyDeletestupid stupid stupid deal for the city from the beginning
no covid didn't kill it but it did exacerbate the public policy follies of the past two decades at city hall. we went broke chasing the creative class. it's nice enough along the berkeley riverfront where white millennial have their little walking path and urban setting, dope in fact, but the price tag of subsidizing all these luxury dwellings downtown, and the price tag of a subsidized bar district downtown, and the price tag of the city's empty hotel ... and the price tag of a streetcar bureaucracy that would die if the federal money stopped, all the while neglecting streets and bridges
Thank you 2:04... that is why I keep coming back to this site. It's like panning for gold, you have to throw away and deal with so much crap just to try to find a little scrap of gold.
DeleteDowntown is fine geezers. Go back to sleep.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha. Keep telling yourself that. Go back to sucking free dicks.
DeleteTHE MAYOR LUCAS CURSE. A SPECIAL MENTION TO MAYOR SLY AND THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THEIR FINE WORK IN GETTING WADELL AND REED TO MOVE DOWNTOWN..
ReplyDeleteThe mayor James curse has 9 more years until it is lifted.
ReplyDeleteCovid did not cause this abortion of a decision by the corporate raiders. This can be chalked up to capitalism and globalism. If there was no merger, this article wouldn't exist.
ReplyDeleteAnother epic fail brought to you by Quinton Lickass.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened Mayor Sly James?
ReplyDeleteTaxpayers are going to be forced to eat this fuckup too.
ReplyDeleteTurn it into a homeless shelter. They already ruined Bartle.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteyep..Waddell & Reed honchos know the stock market due to plummet, as Beijing Bidet and the Dems sell out America to their Red Chinese masters.
ReplyDeleteLOL-- Chudly at 1:15 ..obsessed with toilets.
Kinky!
DST Systems bailed on downtown, sold out, now its an east coast entity. But the 2 'Toms" walked away with hundreds of millions of bucks for holding what I consider a $300,000. a year position. Not a position worth millions!
ReplyDeleteDST = Dont stay there
so this news and other events, such as closure of DST, are irrelevant for the health of our downtown. so civic minded people - unlike you - are right to be concerned about it.
ReplyDeleteobviously it is a big deal when the CBD (central business district, not "CBD" fake weed) is hemorrhaging jobs like ours has been for the past thirty years. the trend has not reversed. seriously, other than bar and restaurant jobs, which are not exactly the kind of job we want to chase after, there is not a jobs boom downtown despite all the debt chasing after downtown development.
can't have a CBD without jobs. just doing subsidized luxury dwellings is stupid.
Whippersnapper Wienie is back on the board.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and hundreds more employees lost their jobs when the plan was to move downtown. Dumbass directors.
ReplyDeleteAs I said also, this merger was going to kill this deal. My financial guru also said they would probably bail on the deal after the merger was announced.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dear Leader!
ReplyDeleteTrump will be back, don't worry, he'll run for the U.S. House in Florida and win in 2022, and the Republicans will take back the house and elect him speaker, and they'll impeach and convict Biden and Harris, and then he'll become president again.
ReplyDeleteWord coming out of city hall is there’s more businesses going to leave kc this year. A number of things like the worst school district in the country, unbelievably high murder rates, socialist cop hating mayor and a weak city clowncil and finally democratic leadership that hates big business.
ReplyDeleteBig business has learned that Kansas City is not where they want to be, too stupid and dangerous.
Hahaha EAT SHIT, LUCAS
Delete3:06 I like that idea! It’s brilliant!
ReplyDeleteStupor duck...was your financial "guru" Bernie Madoff? Likely.
ReplyDeleteSOUNDS FAMILIAR
ReplyDeletehttps://endeavor.org.gr/leading-through-crisis-with-marcello-claure/
@3:11 word out of city hall is that there will be more business coming in than leaving so....Big business doesn't care about anything you said.
ReplyDeleteMayor McDrinkerson! Have you slept off your hangover? The city is becoming Mogadishu before our eyes, an inch of snow paralyzes the town, infrastructure is crumbling, and we're getting two killings a day. What's your plan?
ReplyDeleteWho am I kidding? The plan is more self-promotion, obviously!
ReplyDeleteHere's MY prescient prediction:
Waddell & Reed is waiting out the market crash. Then it will come back to KC / MO with more developer demands for a far better deal to resume its relocation.
It will be the first investment decision by W&R in some time that they can be proud of.
Of course businesses are going to leave.
ReplyDeleteWe're in an economic downturn, there's no surprise about that.
But what new businesses will come to downtown KC?
That's the billion dollar question?
I'd like to hear an answer to that in this economy.
Hahahaha 3:31: "word out of city hall is that there will be more business coming in than leaving so....Big business doesn't care about anything you said."
ReplyDeleteA. Trusting City Hall
B. Not learning from W&R not to take business' word as gospel
C. Wearing your toupee at an angle
(All the stupid things you've done today)
DST Systems was a bunch of unsocial, politically incorrect, racist, angry and rude narcissistic white male managers that would have been fired the first week (as a hiring mistake) at any other company. But at DST they could lie, cheat, try to fire people without cause, date the loose girls in their departments that wore evening gown (yes) to work showing off their boobs, and even smoke in the office - DST gave out company ashtrays! Plus these dudes all graduated from Rockhurst (not Harvard) so they were warped!
ReplyDeleteGood riddance DST and W & R.
Gongs don't count as businesses.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet downtown is fine. Weird.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet outside the zoo it's not. SO weird.
DeleteYou mean to say that businesses are ALWAYS going to act in the best interests of their bottom lines, owners, and shareholders?
ReplyDeleteAnd not make decisions based on the promises they might have made to clueless local elected officials?
Shocking!
Nobody tell smiley selfies Lucas and the gang. You wouldn't want to spoil their fantasy about being big movers and shakers and developers.
Another half-empty or unfinished building in vibrant diverse exciting downtown KCMO.
How much of this "success" can the taxpayers continue to support?
Sad.

Meanwhile the teacher's unions and China are playing Resident Asterisk like a violin.
No need to move if your company ceases to exist.
ReplyDeleteWe tried to tell you bedwetters that this would happen. You wouldn't listen because you are supposedly smarter than everyone else. STFU and deal with the consequences. You aren't going to undo what you've done whether you want to or not.
ReplyDeleteAny chance they would reconsider if the City agreed to put a streetcar line in front of their proposed building?
ReplyDeleteStreetcar Fail – wonder if that jerk at CityScene KC will pick up on this story?
ReplyDeleteIt was very predictable considering that every business downtown has to be bribed with tax payer dollars and incentives to get them here and keep them here in the first place, once the big business makes shit tons of money and the free taxpayer handouts are gone so are they.
ReplyDeleteKilla shitty is the laughing stock amongst big businesses.
Kansas City, MO is done. The growth, the future is Johnson County, Miami County, Lee's Summit...
ReplyDeleteYep. It’s been dying for years now.
DeleteGet a fork! Guido is done!
ReplyDeletehttps://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9314253/Hillary-Clinton-backs-investigation-sexual-harassment-allegations-against-Gov-Andrew-Cuomo.html
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Crime due to the African Americans in that area has scared of all but the hippest trendy skittle warriors. You can put a fork in that section of town. It's done for good.
ReplyDeletecan't have a CBD without jobs. just doing subsidized luxury dwellings is stupid.
ReplyDeleteeb-5 stage set.
ReplyDeleteBuild That Wall! ... along Troost.
"There’s a lot of confusion amongst EB5 stakeholders about how long permanent jobs that are created by EB5 investors need to last....So the key words are “expected to.” Jobs that are expected to last at least two years is what captures the concept...Consistent with prior policy, jobs that are expected to last for at least two years generally are not considered intermittent, temporary, seasonal, or transient in nature. So that language made it exactly into the policy manual." https://greencardbyinvestment.com/blog/eb5-job-creation-two-years-expectation/
ReplyDeleteAnother major business says no to KCMO. You think this is because of COVID? LMAO. No business in their right mind would move to KCMO. High crime, drug use, tent cities, and on track to beat last year's record homicide rate. Mayor Drunkard and his council cronies sounded the death knell. We are now going to watch it quickly become a boarded up, burned out ghetto like Detroit. It's just a matter of time.
ReplyDeleteThat Democrat thing seems to be going very well for Kansas City. 🤣🥨🍿🍺
ReplyDeleteThat stupidity thing seems to be going very well for you.
ReplyDeleteGet Woke go Broke. Only have two.chiices in this country Karencrats or Republicans. The Karen's have ran KC for how many years ? Hey, how about a change ? Could get anh worse.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, maybe potential businesses aren't thrilled by the boy mayor raising his fist and hooting along with rioters.
ReplyDeleteWho'da thunk it?
This train wreck is entertaining as hell to watch.
ReplyDelete"But at DST they could lie, cheat, try to fire people without cause, date the loose girls in their departments that wore evening gown (yes) to work showing off their boobs"
ReplyDeleteBRING BACK DST - SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT WORK ENVIRONMENT - LOOSE GIRLS AND BOOBS MAKES WORK FUN !!
Sounds like DC
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteWhen the Mayor of Kansas City is screaming "No Justice, No Hair Piece" and is kneeling with the BLM homosexual leader and ANTIFA fags while shitting on KCPD; no one wants to locate a multi-billion business in a City run like a juvenile detention center.
3:43: You left out DST's screwing their employees through their 401(k) plans. A friend got screwed out of more than $12K; this week he found out he'd get a little over $2K in a settlement.
ReplyDeleteDST is trash.
Kc is being cancelled! Hahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteHas anyone seen the latest homeless tent city in Westport that seems to be getting bigger daily? Thanks Mayor Q. Your city has really come a long way!!! (sarcasm)
