This missive and so many civic boosters have clearly forgotten human nature as they attempt to mix a history lesson about the impact of segregation with a Summer pastime that mostly serves as a veiled excuse for consuming junk food and lounging outdoors.

Kansas City Monarchs Making History... Again

This spring it will be possible to buy a ticket and witness something not seen in more than 50 years - the Kansas City Monarchs playing a baseball game. That hasn't happened since 1965. By then the Negro Leagues had shut down, with many of its younger stars playing prominent roles on the rosters of Major League Baseball.

  1. Very true. Most people only know (or care) about historical events that happened within their own lifetimes. And even then . . . they recall only very major events.

A high percentage of those under 30 don't know jack about the 9/11 attacks. Hardly any have an inkling of Vietnam war, Gulf War, etc. They do not care about the original Monarchs . . . not matter how good they were.

Go out and ask 10 random millennials who was vice president under Obama. at least 50% will have no idea

Knowing someone who's been to the Negro Leagues Museum is like knowing someone who's died of Covid19.

  15. I think its a dumb move. The Monarchs had their day in the sun. Now it is time for these young players to make their team and they dont need to be standing in anyone's shadow.
