There are very smart and thoughtful people who want to respect the legacy of an iconic baseball team that will grant its name to a local minor league club.
Meanwhile, most people who go to the ballpark merely want to relax, goof off, maybe have a few beers and might not be in the mood for historical research.
This missive and so many civic boosters have clearly forgotten human nature as they attempt to mix a history lesson about the impact of segregation with a Summer pastime that mostly serves as a veiled excuse for consuming junk food and lounging outdoors.

Kansas City Monarchs Making History... Again
This spring it will be possible to buy a ticket and witness something not seen in more than 50 years - the Kansas City Monarchs playing a baseball game. That hasn't happened since 1965. By then the Negro Leagues had shut down, with many of its younger stars playing prominent roles on the rosters of Major League Baseball.
Very true. Most people only know (or care) about historical events that happened within their own lifetimes. And even then . . . they recall only very major events.
ReplyDeleteA high percentage of those under 30 don't know jack about the 9/11 attacks. Hardly any have an inkling of Vietnam war, Gulf War, etc. They do not care about the original Monarchs . . . not matter how good they were.
Go out and ask 10 random millennials who was vice president under Obama. at least 50% will have no idea
Bad move to do biz with people that run the museum
ReplyDeleteAll that city money and it's exactly the same as it was 15 years ago
^^^^^^Unless your looking for a free ride all expenses paid to the Super Bowl courtesy of Mayor Lucas.
ReplyDeleteThe only history a man knows for certain is that small part he owns for himself.

ReplyDeleteSo what is this BLM and black suppression and black equality we have had shoved down our throats lately? Proof that's it's all bull shit!!!!!!
Will there be reserved front row parking for KCMO clownsil members and jazz museum big shots Escalades ?
ReplyDelete"Go out and ask 10 random millennials who was vice president under Obama." If they answer nobody, they'd be right.
ReplyDelete^^OK, I will if you ask 10 Boomers what day it is. If any can give you the right answer I'd be amazed.
ReplyDelete9:31
ReplyDeleteEasy, it's the day you made a fool of yourself.
^^and yet you would be wrong! @9:31 was right! Boomers really are fucktards!! LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteWho wants to watch a team that is named after a butterfly.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeletethe ol' Monarchs resemble a modern NBA team.
Knowing someone who's been to the Negro Leagues Museum is like knowing someone who's died of Covid19.
ReplyDelete^^and yet millions have and you've never left your trailer in decades so....
ReplyDeleteI think its a dumb move. The Monarchs had their day in the sun. Now it is time for these young players to make their team and they dont need to be standing in anyone's shadow.
ReplyDeleteT-Bones was an excellent name. Monarchs ?! Wtf ?!
