Once again the threat of local bankruptcy becomes a very real possibility as the economic health of Kansas City continues to suffer amid the pandemic.
To wit and as the local coronavirus crackdown on small biz persists in the name of public health . . .

Kansas City, MO Earns 'D' Rating For Fiscal Health
Deets:
The analysis by Truth in Accounting (TIA), a nonprofit government finance watchdog group, found Kansas City, MO needed $1.7 billion to get out of the red, or $11,300 from each of its taxpayers.
According to the watchdog's annual Financial State of the Cities report, Kansas City, MO owed $3.1 billion and only had $1.4 billion to pay those bills after capital and restricted assets are excluded. This resulted in an $1.7 billion shortfall, or a $11,300 Taxpayer Burden™, which is each taxpayer's share of the municipal debt after the city's available assets have been tapped.

There goes that stimulus check.
ReplyDeleteDamn.
Don't worry, the currency is going to so devalued that we can probably make a trade to cover it all. By 2024 a couple of chickens and roll of toilet paper should cover it.
DeleteWell that's what happens when you close and punish businesses for no reason but yet suck up to the NFL. Go get some money from them see how far that gets ya.
ReplyDeleteSee what happens when you give away the farm?
ReplyDeleteFormer Mayor Sly James, Mike Burke, Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Civic Council, Downtown Council and VistKC will be presenting a detailed plan on how to solve this temporary shortfall.
ReplyDeleteShut it down. Dissolve into surrounding Cities or Counties and close the doors at City Hall.
ReplyDeleteThe best way is to pander to people who don't work or pay taxes and tell all those people who do pay taxes that they are jerks.
ReplyDeleteBetter title: Quinton broke KC.
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't the only one Sly James shares a lot of the responsibility
DeleteThanks for all the useless TIFs, CIDs, and corporate welfare you god-damned idiots!
ReplyDeleteThese problems can be solved, just not by the current leaders
ReplyDeleteNot to worry Biden will bail us out with newly minted tax dollars. Turn on those printing presses! Our grandkids will pay the bill someday,
ReplyDelete10:47 killer kc doesn’t have any leaders.
ReplyDeleteNo problamo, jut raise property taxes.
ReplyDeleteThe second 9:41 actually has a good idea there.
ReplyDeleteBuy gold while you still can.
ReplyDelete^^^ Gold is not a good investment. Diversify in the market and you'll be money. The collapse or whatever you think is not going to happen.
ReplyDeleteGive us your tired, your sick, your poor. We'll take care of them. We are Super Liberals! Nicaragua? No problemo! Colombian? C'mon, man! Mexican? Muy Bueno! KC welcomes your diversity (you do have some good food), your germs, your poverty. We have plenty to go around for everyone. You know who will suffer? The poor of Kansas City who voted for Quinton and other liberals. Their leaders welcome the immigrants with open arms, to the detriment of the very constituency that voted them in office. But...But...Liberals!
ReplyDeleteHave the fat reverends get a loan from BLM. They have lots of money.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Quentin. This is on you.
ReplyDelete12:56, use your own name, asshole.
ReplyDeleteBlaming immigrants is just ignorant.
Farmers & big tech beg for more migrant workers,
If the four richest men in America would give back the money they took during the pandemic, they could pay for Biden's 1.9 trillion dollar Covid relief bill, all by themselves & still be billionaires.
ReplyDeleteI am not exaggerating.
But, let's not blame the rich thieves, let's blame the poor.
those rich Libs got their money where you will never get at it
DeleteQ thinks d is for dick!
ReplyDeleteAND BY THE RICH THEIVES i DO MEAN THE LYING DEMOCRATS WHO CONTROL THE MEDIA AND STOLE THE ELECTION. SORRY I DIDN'T MAKE THAT CLEAR ABOVE.
ReplyDeleteHow could this happen?
ReplyDeleteGuess keeping ppl from working has an effect on the bottom line.
Guess forcing ppl to shop outside the city limits does too.
Hey Byron give back all the money you scammed from the governments.
ReplyDeleteChicken Joe will get his Praetorium Guard to save us.
ReplyDeleteIf he will let them go from guarding Fortess D.C. .
Bwak-Bwak-BWAAAAAAK!
Incompetence.
ReplyDeleteTo think or even believe this wasn't going to happen is delusional thinking.
The elected officials have failed their constituents in Kansas City and Jackson County isn't far behind in their failure too.
What a shame!
Tax the Poor!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that the budget hole has gone from $60 million to over a billion pretty much overnight. Maybe someone wasn't telling the truth with the first number, or more likely, they had no idea what they were doing or talking about. Happens all the time at 12th and Oak.
ReplyDeleteAnd the idea of liquidating KCMO government and having surrounding cities pick it up.
Who in the world would want it?
Massive debt and poorly maintained infrastructure. What assets of any value would the purchasers be getting?
The state line looks more important every day.
How's the $60 million for a soccer field in the northland coming?
You really can't make this stuff up!
Whaaa!!! The debt!!! Oh no!!! Whaaaa!!!! so much debt!! Whaaa!!!
ReplyDeleteMayor Lucas ignored Law and Order and supported the anarchists.
ReplyDeletePeople no longer go to Kansas City to dine or shop; thus the City lost tens of millions of sales tax dollars.
You reap what you sow Mayor Lucas.
Shouldn’t have spent the taxpayer money on fluff projects like bike lanes and jazz district and power and light!!!! And yes, the toy train!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere oh where is that Biden bailout?
ReplyDeleteMayor McDrinkerson! Isn't there a helpful selfie or tweet you can accomplish today? Don't strain yourself or anything, we know hangovers are rough.
ReplyDeleteReparations. KCMO is all about reparations.
ReplyDeleteJazz Museum
18th and Vine
Linwood Grocery
Street Car
Various committees and employment of unqualified people who provide nothing to the City.
^^sortta like you CHUD? Bam!
ReplyDeleteYou pay down debt during good times and build up reserves in case there's a, oh I don't know, a pandemic??
ReplyDeleteThis is the epitome of Dim0crat city economics. Its all good until you run out of other peoples money and nobody wants to loan you money because you arent good for it. Keep voting Dim0crat, by race, and installing clowns for city council. Making KC a shithole again.
