Kansas City Taxpayers Will Guarantee $36 MILLION In Debt For Downtown Office Space Nobody Wants After COVID-19 Devastation

Around this time last year, city hall offered an EPIC perk for an upstart project that hoped to bring "first class" new office space into the loop. $36-MILLION was just the start of the bill.

Just a few months later the pandemic hit and completely transformed how Americans work.

Sadly, KCMO taxpayers are still stuck with the bill and must endure promo hype like this:

Downtown Office Summit lights the path toward a 'bright future'

Commercial real estate analysts joined with area business leaders on Tuesday to align research, data and strategies for driving growth in the Downtown Kansas City office market in the face of the pandemic. They gathered at the fourth annual Downtown KC Office Summit, presented virtually to more than 400 attendees by the Downtown Council from a live studio in Union Station.

  2. This is fantastic! Another addition to our beautiful Downtown! KC is on the move! Progress!

  3. I don't think this is from COVID why would it be it's the same everywhere. What this is about is poor leadership in KC or lack there of, the idiot citizens that keep voting the same, and the riots if radicals don't get their way. No one needs that when they can go somewhere else. It's also about the graffiti they call art that has cheapened the city and the lack of police officers due to the hate the left throw out. Kansas City has a lot of really ignorant people, I found that out after living in Hyde Park and watching the radical left take over the city for years.

  4. ^^Then move bitch! We don't want you here!

  5. KC was once a neat midwestern city that new residents flocked to and people wanted to visit. Sadly, it’s nothing like that anymore. Smart people are moving out of the city, unique tourist destinations like the Plaza are kaput and the city is literally going bankrupt. Posters like 9:50 are surely trolling to irritate serious minds; otherwise he/she is a starry-eyed moron with no concept of finance.

  6. 9:50 & 10:52 youz mentally deficient mental cases.

There is no 'downtown' KC, 'downtown' is an outdated/abandoned office park. now just another neighborhood, 'downtown' is strangled by the functionally obsolete, poorly planned highways that killed it.

  7. Be careful what you wish for, 10:52. The more people like 9:59 that move out, the more people like you will move in, then things will really be an effed up mess.

  8. ^^Don't let the door hit you in the ass! Bye bitch. KC is a fantastic city. Don't like it? Move! Now! You aren't wanted or welcome here. You're all crybaby bitches who have long outlived your usefulness!

  10. Like it or not people are moving. You are going to be less than impressed with the result. There is an endless list of reasons to move out and very few to stay.

  11. there is concern that 11:24 is KJ going full meltdown and talking to herself.

  12. The end result is that there are more moving in than leaving. The people leaving aren't missed, and were nothing of any consequence or import. KC will be fine. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

The stupidity in Kansas Shitty and Jackass County can't happen without your money. Dig through the couch cushions folks. Dig deep! I can hardly wait to see how this one plays out. 😏🍿

  22. The city of KC is in very very very poor financial shape. Very bad.
While terrible leadership and a Mayor 10-10-10 that joined protesters might be to blame- the
City of Kansas City must raise taxes and cut jobs!
Here is how to do it:

    1. Lay off 120% of employees. Yes it will involve laying off employees in other cities to get the extra 20%, but KC is broke-ass-broke! So let them layoff employees in Grandview and Raytown and force those cities to give that money to KC.

    2. Make retired and ex KC Star employees pay back 20% of all past earnings. Clearly their liberal editorials contributed to crime and just bad decision making. Just look at The Star now- already sold their building and can’t afford to rent it back. Their business acumen on a scale of 1-10 is minus 5.

    3. Since Seattle is the city of open arms for homelessness... let KC tax Seattle for each homeless person and add it to KC coffers. While that makes zero sense... it still makes better sense than extending a toy train to go to places that no one will go to.

    4. Scrap the tot train and melt it down for scrap. Give the scrap to the homeless so they can sell it for food.

    5. Demand money from the Plaza Meechants for not letting mostly peaceful looters and protesters steal rob and loot their stores. The mostly peaceful protesters, including Mayor 10-10-10 can pocket half the money.

These 5 great ideas can help KC get back on its feet. And if you have any additional ideas please add them to Tony’s blog. Apparently Mayor 10-10-10 reads it and so does ex KC Star employees. They will love any ideas... just make sure you use the words tax and spend.

  23. 12:09, lay down the crack pipe and look at recent statistics. People are fleeing KCMO for suburban life (or completely out of the area) by greater numbers than those moving in. Look at all your exciting apartments downtown that are slashing rent and offering incentives to get people to move in. Sorry if you’re allergic to reality.

  24. I'm in the "completely out of the area" category 6:56. Lucked out and bailed early on. No plans to ever come back either. Love it out here in "Leave Me the Hell Alone Land!" Can come and go as I please. No stupid mask requirements. No busybody Karens. Can't spit and hit the house next door. Taxes are lower. Upgraded to a much larger house for the same money I had tied up in KC. Location to remain undisclosed because I love being left the hell alone and laughing my butt off at the stupidity in KC/JaCo. Don't see that mess turning around in the next couple of decades.
