Kansas City Star Catches Up To Crusade Against Shawnee Mission North Indians

The petition started BACK IN JULY and now as December approaches, the "newspaper" offers their two cents.

Safely hidden behind the paywall . . .

Thousands demand that Shawnee Mission North drop its 'degrading' mascot: The Indians

Hunter Hawkins thought he was doing the right thing when he applied to be the Shawnee Mission North Indians mascot his senior year. But years later, he said it remains one of the biggest regrets of his life.

  1. Most cultures would be proud any school would use them to signify strong and resilient people, which is how mascots are often chosen. The Star is always so desperate to go after easy targets without large public relations machines, especially in JoCo. No wonder they went bankrupt and had to be sold for pennies on the dollar. Down the drain they continue to go.

  4. Nothing says "intellectual" like the use of the word "simps."

  5. @7:44 you know nothing what other cultures like. An old black or Indian would like to help you swallow your teeth but social order prevents them. If it’s pride, I’ll make your significant other a baby and name it after you, you’ll be proud.

  6. Will this reduce the mass shooters coming out of Shawnee?

  7. Editorial board and so called journalists at the Star are nothing more than activists. They can't sell papers due to their continued liberal positions, they've never seen a tax they don't support.

And yet they (Star) can't understand why no one will purchase the paper or the electronic version. I got the pop up on their site, 1 year for $20 for the e-version, but then happened to read an editorial which surprisingly wasn't behind the paywall. More cop bashing so, they won't get my $20.

Now back to SMMN, it's not only the Star stirring things up, it's activist teachers. This is a non-story, leave the mascot as is, it's not in anyway a sign of disrespect or culture appropriation. Shawnee Mission is name after the Shawnee tribe, this is nothing but an honor to the Indians.

  9. If not for naming things after American Indians their less than stellar civilizations would be forgotten like the dust they created.

  10. Yeah, I suppose antifa and magats have this stellar civilization under control.

  11. The Milky Way Galaxy is protesting that such a sad sack of a newspaper is named Star.

  12. Will Scandinavian immigrants be petitioning to rename the SMW Vikings? This is so dumb. If SMN were the Redskins or Savages, I would understand, but what is offensive about Indians?

  13. What truly reflects poorly on Shawnee Mission North is the graduates. Specifically the girls. Example: one student named Kim slept with so many guys around Mission Kansas that she couldn't even remember her number of lovers. Then at about age 22 she did a local gang bang porn video - the guys made copies and showed it for years at their local parties. Once married she cheated on her husband during the first year. Cheats on her second hubby too.

    CHARACTER MATTERS!
