All options on the table for dormant Mission Gateway project

MISSION, Kan. - So many holiday activities and traditions are either altered or impossible this year, including those that might have been. One such example: the Mission Gateway project that was set to offer some new things this holiday season. Months ago, construction on the Mission Gateway project stopped.

  9. Covid didn't kill Mission gateway. It's been under construction/delayed/paused/scheduled to open since 2013. Covid is just the current convenient excuse.

  10. What killed Mission Gateway was that a "developer" with a big story and no money conned yet another group of clueless electeds who bought into the dreams of gushers of sales tax revenue pouring into the city's coffers.
    The story is repeated endlessly and there's always anew group who desperately want to buy into it.
    Exhibit A?
    A downtown baseball stadium.
    It will pay for itself!

  11. Movie theatre, retail, hotel, office space and apartments. Every one of these except apartments have decreasing demand nationwide. And apartments will soon be so overbuilt that there will be mass vacancies.

  12. The developer never did an interest coverage ratio on his books. It would have shown that he couldn't afford to build this. 1 simple ratio. Takes 5 seconds.

    COVID didn't kill the Gateway project. Stupid choices and decisions, from the very start, like tearing down a good, working facility just before the worst financial collapse since the Great Depression killed this Gateway Project.
