COVID Probably Killed Mission Gateway

The long awaited Golden Ghetto entertainment district in the making is unlikely to make it out of the pandemic and here's the first hint that a tear down is in the cards . . . Even if we'd all like to imagine that people are going to start going back to the movies next year.

How much in taxes has the City lost over the last decade after they decided to demolish the old mall?

It doesn't matter. That's not their money. It's yours that they are after.

Bulldoze it and put in the worlds biggest Quick Trip or a casino.

Gonna love watching nature reclaim that spot over the next year or so.

Might even make a time-lapse video with some meditative Brian Eno music accompaniment.

A casino would be perfect. Sharice could get it done for her Likahoe tribe. The city of Mission could make a fortune off speeding tickets and DUIs.

Covid didn't kill Mission gateway. It's been under construction/delayed/paused/scheduled to open since 2013. Covid is just the current convenient excuse.

What killed Mission Gateway was that a "developer" with a big story and no money conned yet another group of clueless electeds who bought into the dreams of gushers of sales tax revenue pouring into the city's coffers.
The story is repeated endlessly and there's always anew group who desperately want to buy into it.
Exhibit A?
A downtown baseball stadium.
It will pay for itself!

Movie theatre, retail, hotel, office space and apartments. Every one of these except apartments have decreasing demand nationwide. And apartments will soon be so overbuilt that there will be mass vacancies.

The developer never did an interest coverage ratio on his books. It would have shown that he couldn't afford to build this. 1 simple ratio. Takes 5 seconds.

No, no, no...

COVID didn't kill the Gateway project. Stupid choices and decisions, from the very start, like tearing down a good, working facility just before the worst financial collapse since the Great Depression killed this Gateway Project.
