TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY STARLIGHT LONGTIME TICKET HOLDERS DENOUNCE 'PURGE' TO PLEASE ELITE DONORS!!!

This local testimony is PERFECT and offers a front row seat to some important local drama.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY CLASS WARFARE ERUPTS AT STARLIGHT AMID COVID-19 HARSH TIMES!!!

Read betwixt the lines of this KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTER testimony and notice that the renowned local stage is now forced to decide betwixt more dedicated & numerous middle-class fans vs. the desires of bigger money patrons.

Here's the word . . .

TKC Reader: "Starlight Theater gives longtime patrons the boot"

8/25 letters started going out to longtime season ticket holders in the 15 center rows of those holding Orchestra seats "new donor priority seating program"

Many of these seats were Grandfathered with a promise by Starlight that as long as you renewed year after year , you would not have to donate.

This has been existence since the year 2000.

This week, President and CEO Rich Baker began personally calling subscribers to tell them the present board voted unanimously to break the promise.

Either you PAY $1000 for every 2 seats EVERY YEAR , or give up your front row seats and 14 rows behind them.

You were told you had less than 24 ,hours to decide.

Many of these families that held these seats for 20 years , and have supported Starlight for about 50 years.

They were told that Starlight may be closed permanently by 2022 if they didn't donate.

Basically the present board bankrupted Starlight with costly unneeded improvements like Giant Fan towers, state of the art LED Screens, fountains, Restaurants and lavish Donor Parties.

What really is going on is young wealthy subscribers weary of looking at the back of heads that they feel don't deserve those seats.

They don't respect the fact that these same people bought these tickets for decades regardless of how crappy the shows were year after year.
There was a consolation offered to the subscribers , pay the same price for substandard seats on the far sides of of the stage.

Starlight is in decline, (during their last season) any given show night the theater is barely half full, the same families were there faithfully. The current board needs to step down, for trying to strong arm& fleece patrons, even the they were promised otherwise.

    2. Move to theater in the park. Its safer And, moms don't get murdered from a random gun shot. And their daughter watches them dye.

  2. reopen it as an open air target range. That's the only thing that will work at Swope.

  3. half full shows would work great if I had to donate. Might be more enjoyable.

  4. JC is right. No white people are safe after dark anywhere in Swope Park

  6. Just sad! One of the best venues for live outdoor concerts. The sound there is incredible. Where's BLM to rescue this icon of a place? They won't or don't care so people with money will go elsewhere. Great job KC! Be proud BLM!

  7. If it closes, just tear it down. Don’t leave it for the locals to desecrate.

  8. nonprofit squeeze coming for most such institutions.

who's in the mood to donate?

if the political situation does crater, it'll be a catastrophe for nonprofits.

they're a great kansas city amenity.

  11. yeah, even by the summer of 2021 with vaccines, the idea of mixing with a big crowd will still not be appealing.

might be summer of 2022 before things can return to normal at starllight.

ditto for symphony, umkc rep theatre, music hall, etc.

christmas carol at the rep will be cancelled.

    tough times coming.

  12. Not worried about catching Corona Virus at Starlight.

Would be worried about catching a 9mm or .45 before, during or after a Starlight play or concert.

Another venue, like the Plaza, that has been destroyed by Mayor Lucas lawlessness.

Never, ever hire a college professor to do anything. They will screw it up.

  13. starlight has always seemed safe over the years. there are throngs of police as well as patrons.

  15. ALERT: live theaters will have serious financial problems and some will go out of business.

  16. 9:16 - The KCPD cannot prevent crime anymore or the KC Chiefs will post the criminals name on their football helmet and the police officer will lose his job.

So you're on your own buckaroo regarding future trips to Starlight.

Mayor Lucas radical rioters are in charge now.

  17. Isn't Starlight Theatre in Swope Park where six people were shot last weekend?

Better drive your Armored Personnel Carrier and carry an M-60 and your wife an M-79 if you plan on attending a theater performance.

  18. Gentrification of STARLIGHT
    Wealthy White Elitism.
Shame on The STARLIGHT Board and Trustees for destroying a beloved institution.
Starlight has always been a cherished family venue, very sad that that they have decided that $50,000 was worth ending one of the few affordable family venues.
Its also disgusting how the Board is evidently saying You Don't Belong Here.
The entire Board should resign over this

  19. if Hiden wins, entertainment for the elites by nonprofit arts organizations will be crippled. live theater, ballet, opera, and symphony orchestras will suffer from donor withdrawals.

we non-elites won't be able to piggyback to get access to such culture.

  20. I’m sure the boy blunder and his run whitey out of town racist attitude is behind all this, furloughing 850 white people that work for the city was just the beginning, now he’s trying to run off all the white people from starlight just like he’s trying to run them off from the plaza. He doesn’t even hide it anymore, he wants everything for his bestus buddies at blm. Thank god he’s getting recalled and will be going back to the gay bars in Lawrence.

  22. This is all wrong. Changes have to be made in the seating of Starlight to meet federal ADA requirements and that means changing seats throughout the theater. That is why Mr. Baker is in the position of having to let people know things have to change to fulfill ADA requirements. It’s not a money grab. It’s a step in the process of making Starlight accessible.

    1. I charging $1000 for every 2 seats $2000/$3000 for 4/6 seats YEARLY is not a money grab ?
Many of these Producers Circle was made a promise that if they would only have to donate $2500 in 2000 .
Its absolute BS to charge long term patrons and using ADA to do it.
I agree with one of the other post
CEO Rich Hill and the Board should be removed. Looks like Starlight needs new management & accountability

    not to worry.

  24. 3:56 you mean the ada upgrades they made a few years ago were wrong or did they not happen? Funny the city spent millions of dollars that the feds mandated on ada upgrades and you’re saying they still need to do more? Interesting.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The first set of upgrades did not include the seating bowl. The bowl project was always planned to be done separately. The Starlight project was very large and due to the nature of it, it had to be done in phases.

  25. Guess you could call this "Class Warfare" on Starlight's part, but unfortunately Starlight, as Steinbeck said "ain't got the class of a Duck", and hasn't had anything but long-standing habits to support its for at least a decade.

    ReplyDelete
  26. We were one of the subscribers affected
We received the two part letter, one section was about the ADA improvements and the 2nd was about the new Donor Priority setting privilege.
Each seat already cost us nearly $900 × 4 plus to renew for 2021 we would be obligated to donate $2000 yearly.
We had a quick family meeting and decided the 2nd rate shows , high school level productions wasn't worth it.
We were also told that there were numerous complaints about many subscribers being grandfathered .
We've opted for Theater League, better shows and not so HIGHRISK area to walk to your car at 11:30pm
They lost a good family , but we've decided Starlight isn't worth it

  27. I’ve been going to Starlight since I was pregnant the first time, it was 1952. It was hot & you wore hose. The last time I went on a Sunday night & would get cheap tickets, sat anywhere we wanted. The music was delightful! I’m 90 now & don’t go for reasons spelled out by others.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Move it to Shawnee Mission Park in Lenexa. The Lenexa police Dept is on top of things, traffic flow would be great, no crimes, safe area, right off the good section of 435. Why have Starlight in a battle zone. Ask the lady's family from Lawrence Ks who was shot dead trying to drive home a few years ago what they think.
