Kansas City Seyz Goodbye To 'The Buzz' As Local Terrestrial Radio Stays Losing

Quick peek at the ongoing decline of local legacy media in the midst of the coronavirus crash and evolving technology.

95.6 The Buzz has rebranded as now goes by the moniker "Alt 95.6" it's not much of a dramatic shift but offers a sense of desperation given that local advertisers would rather give their cash to Google & Facebook over the sketchy media metrix of radio b.s. artists.

Fear not, we notice that "The Church Of Lazlo" remains intact for the moment.

Still, one thing is clear . . . Kansas City local radio is doomed.

This might be good news if only local podcasts weren't so amateurish, safe and schmaltzy.

And so, the NEXTGEN seems tuned out of local news, events and community in favor of satellite, streaming and Spotify where user interaction drives audio and not the old school DJ or talker model.

Something to consider as we move forward and this town's media scene continues to evolve.

Developing . . .

  1. Lazlo the lib is still on air. Good man!

I hope he can do his best to convince those students 25 years younger than him that they should vote for a 77 year old man.

    Sounds like a plan!

Right next to the cell phone charger in your mom's car. They used to call that a cigarette lighter.

Lazlo isn't a lib. He's just a scumbag DJ like his ex wife.

  4. Rebrand won't bring back the audience. They've grown up and switched to satellite radio.

  5. Pete Mundo is legit. He always gets really good access to local politicians and speaks actual local news. Radio is alive and well. Coast to Coast is on every night.

  6. Back in 2007 we had a crew of eight to ten workers who ranged in age from 18 up to 54 - this radio station was the only one all could agree on to listen to eight hours a day.

Maybe twice a year on average a gem of a tune would make it's way to the airwaves - most other tunes were bullshit music, imo.

  7. radio is dead. Now with mobile devices we can get 24/7 news/sports/and never have to rely on outdated radio. Put it to bed. Abrams is old school.
Does he not realize that there are no new artists to showcase on radio. Covid killed live music and it may never recover. The movement in media is to digital and direct mail. Get over it you old sobs!

  8. Maybe if Lazlo played some fucking music instead of blathering about nothing for 45 minutes of every hour they'd get back some market share...

  9. Listeners want to hear music or humor not a steady stream of depressing politics and social issues.

  11. Local Sports Talk radio sucks. Wish we could get national shows like the old days.

Local guys act like they just woke up, no prep, no knowledge of anything other than the Chiefs.

    College football coverage is horrible.

  12. This is what happens when a washed up country music jock gets put in charge of some radio stations. Dare better start looking over his shoulder as he may be next so said PD can promote his wife to her own morning show.

  13. super dave was a janitor at country club. What does he know? seriously.
Dare has nothing to worry about. He made millions and is well set for life.
    How about dave?

  14. The only reason to own a radio is the Kansas City Classical station at 91.9 FM.

  15. Super Dave is doing very well unlike most you loses here. Janitor you say, just proved you don't know Dave at all. He ran that country club you moron after he told the board to fire the GM.
