Consensus Among Critics: Kansas City Recall Mayor Quinton Lucas Group Is Racist
Without offering much in the way of reporting, the Kansas City Star has condemned a local political effort.
The screed piggy-backs on our much more exciting recent bloggy discussion and attempts to influence voters who dare to peek behind their paywall . . .
Recall KC Mayor Quinton Lucas? Unfair, misguided effort deserves only one response: No
"The concerns, and those of other petition signers, are squishy. The recall affidavit claims Lucas has shown “poor judgment and inadequate leadership” related to the city’s COVID-19 response and “civil unrest.”
"This is thin oatmeal. Even if you disagree with the mayor’s judgment or leadership, his actions hardly justify a recall election. Recalls are nasty and divisive, and should be reserved for criminal behavior or obvious corruption, not a policy dispute. If disagreements over local issues become the standard, we’ll have recall elections every 90 days.
"It isn’t even clear whether the alleged failings are valid grounds for recall under the city’s charter . . ."
Interesting and something we talked about two weeks ago. Here's a trend that's far more important . . .
GROWING SOCIAL MEDIA OPPOSITION AGAINST THE MAYOR Q RECALL DENOUNCES THE EFFORT AS RACIST!!!
The overwhelming pro-Trump stance and universal outrage against BLM voiced by the Recall Q group has set off a warning among local activists and sparked a surprising wave of support for the young Mayor . . . This is odd and a weird benefit for the city hall leader who is also confronting condemnation from some of the more strident East Side urban leaders.
Nevertheless . . .
Here at TKC we're agnostic about nearly all things political and regard every slap fight as nothing more or less than a source of entertainment and valuable component of the local discourse.
There's a lot more to unpack about this effort and we're disappointed about the dearth of objective journalism when it comes to newbie Northland organizers and the impressive momentum they've created for a conservative special interest in KCMO politics.
Still, on the bright side . . . The recall petition is finally being taken SERIOUSLY and the political opposition is only now preparing to push back.
