YEAR ONE REPORT CARD: IS KANSAS CITY MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS WINNING AMID CORONAVIRUS, RISING HOMICIDES AND BLACK LIVES MATTER PROTEST?!?

More than anything else, the exceptionally likeable Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas has suffered criticism for being far too reasonable, wishy-washy and bit of a flip-flopper.

Whilst he is a lawyer by training, unlike former Mayor and groundbreaking litigator Sly James, Mayor Q is not an exceptionally inspiring or eloquent orator. As Councilman and now leader of KCMO, Quinton Lucas rose to power because of his hyper-intelligence, shrewd analytical ability and his calm nearly methodical political style. The young mayor has yet to be outmaneuvered as his opposition who only grow more aggressive in hopes of forcing the politico into a corner. So far, the mayor remains clean and untarnished despite a great deal of mudslinging thrown his way.

If the Mayor has a super power . . . It's his prudent brilliance that avoids most pitfalls and allows him to quickly retreat without pride from negative political entanglements.

And now the bad . . .

At heart the Mayor is a boring law lecturer. His willingness to please anyone leaves EVERYONE unhappy. His calculated political moves are often deemed insincere by both critics and allies.

Behind the scenes . . . The mayor's new school supports staff mistakenly think they're every bit as smart as the mayor and they're most certainly not. His core group of hipster lackeys are starting to anger council colleagues and the biz community with a mistaken sense of entitlement and elitism. This is Kansas City after all and denizens of the cowtown have little patience for assistants already calculating D.C. Beltway influence before their term inside the loop is finished.

On specific issues . . .

The Coronavirus shut down was an overall win for the mayor despite small biz complaints. Local media politely ignoring the laughable 10-10-10 plan was a gift as the Mayor quickly backed off enforcement but still claimed a victory. Moreover, the news cycle quickly forgot about Mayor Q's mask snafu . . .

BLM, civil unrest & continued protests have been tougher for the mayor to answer . . . He has earned praise from critics for siding with protesters but a recent demand for him to "pick a side" has thwarted his credibility with activists and police alike. Going forward, local control questions and other social justice efforts will offer a clearer policy appraisal of Mayor Q on the delicate balance between support for law enforcement and more reasonable demands for police accountability.

The Kansas City Murder Rate: The mayor imagined he could lower the homicide count to under 100 and this year that hope has been dashed. Sadly, neither politicos nor social justice activists have shown a consistent interest in stopping the slaughter on local streets. And so, while the lack of progress on the KCMO murder count might be his most serious failure as a leader . . . It's an issue where he'll encounter the least criticism from the mainstream media or political opposition.

Accordingly, here's the headline view of Mayor Q at year one . . .

KCTV5: Assessing Quinton Lucas’ first year as Mayor

Now, we ask readers to gauge the progress of this politico presiding over Kansas City amid unprecedented times.

You decide . . .

  1. better than Sly and much better than jolie would have been. I don't agree with everything but he is doing the best he can under difficult criminalizes.

I'd vote for him over all of the other development lawyers in town.

  2. A disaster, from the first day to today. One could not imagine a man less prepared for the responsibility of office than the boy blunder was and is.

It won't matter as his ambitions are national anyway. Perhaps he has already arranged with Clever Cleaver to take his seat in another couple days.

  3. I give the Mayor an F. Mayor doesn't stand for anything. The press in Kansas City doesn't hold him accountable for anything. Quinton Lucas doe not understand he is the Mayor not a protester. Quinton Lucas got a pass for his behavior before he was elected as Mayor and still expects it.

  4. He gets an F, Like in Fucking Loser. Weird

  5. if tkc losers give him an F, that means A for normal non CHUDs.

  6. F- grade. He has proven he is a spineless, lying chickenshit. But he is less harmful than Sly was, so far. Flip-flops like a largemouth bass. He might be the biggest pussy ever in our city government.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Unlike the gracious poster 8:25... I refuse to give Mayor 10-10-10 an F.
    Doesn’t deserve a grade.

Weird alphabet groups calling for Q to pull back Operation Legend should have had the “supposed” Mayor calling BS and telling the groups to stick a fork in it. They’ve cleared murders, arrested perps and gotten dicey drugs off the street. What’s not to like? Fuck any group that wants the status quo of inner city murders.

They want to protest all cops and ignore over 150 black on black murders? Hypocrisy at its worst. Read Candace Owens for more. She is black and 109% right.

The day Mayor 10-10-10 focuses on crime instead of virus deaths and shutting down businesses will be a cold day in hell. But at least he might find a few of his political operatives there.

  8. It took the fag mayor from South Bend three years to come out of the closet after he became mayor. Clock is ticking.

Q Ball has been a colossal failure of epic proportions from the beginning. The man could screw up a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He's just another racebaiting, do-as-I-say-not-as-I do, loudmouth, better than you, politician. I have absolutely no faith that the can fix the cluster**** that he created, conditions that existed before he took office not withstanding but they still are under his charge and have not improved. I would be surprised if Kansas City was as good as the conditions are in Detroit now by the time his term ends. He should go back to drunk driving. At least he's good at that.

  11. I love some of the comments on here. "I'd vote for him over the developers?." "He's doing the best he can?"
He's been behind the developers just like Sly.
He's kneeling to the thugs in the streets and someone says he's doing the best he can?
You idiots never learn. He supports BLM funded by soros and run by Susan Rosenberg. I can't believe how stupid you people are. You're just as stupid as my special friend in Central Hyde Park and her weird Bob Berdella want a be husband. Now that's scary.

  12. Grade? Incomplete.
    Puts forth no effort.
Thinks his own rules don't apply to him.
Expects others to do his job for him.
Does not work or play well with others.
Blames others for his own failures.
Does not support all of his employees.
Supports destruction of property. Mainly police.
May not use but definitely supports drugs.
    In way over his head.
Recommend holding back advancement and placement in remedial special ed class.

  14. Black Lives will Matter when Black Lives Matter to Black People.

Prove you respect each other and then you will be respected. Have some integrity and identify the killers...

Mayor Q, you need to demand minorities become mature citizens and speak the truth to them. Until they lock up the thugs destroying their neighborhoods, Black Lives will never Matter.

  15. So we have one dick suck that praises the down low bro. Everyone else has caught on to the obvious that Ray Charles could see. Funny shit dat.

  16. My money is on Q. Why pick a side when it makes no difference? So far, in my opinion, he has done well considering what he inherited: a city laid to financial waste over decades by greedy developers, tax giveaways, and debt burden, a political process controlled by special interests. Blighted properties. Murders.

On the other hand, KC has affordable housing, the plaza is still beautiful, the street car is an expensive perk, our museums and memorials are of national stature, downtown still flourishes. The quality of life is much better here than could be afforded in SF or NYC. Can't credit Q for this any more than blame him for the problems. These problems will take years to turn around.

Some say he is fake, but he came up through the mean streets. Even before running for mayor, he had shown compassion for the homeless and affordable housing. He can speak exemptoraneously and knowledgably. He is still learning big league skills. Time will tell. Arrogance by him or his staff will wreck his career quickly. He still needs all the support he can get. Just my opinion. Yours may vary.

  20. The negative and positive points have already been made here. But in the end Lucas was not elected for his past experience on the council, he was elected simply because it was either him or Justus to be Mayor. Lucas won on the lessor of the two evils ballot.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I voted for him. Given the same candidates I would vote for him again. Not that I agree with him on everything, but between the protests and coronavirus fiasco I say he is doing well. Any person with 2020 as their first year in office would be having a tough time, and I think Lucas is holding up well. Screw the haters, I support Lucas.

  23. Worst mayor in my 64 year memory. His intellect is meaningless without any wisdom to use it. The resulting arrogance that he alone knows what's right for everybody else. His hypocrisy is like nobody I've seen in the office before and that's saying something. He is sacrificing KC for his own political ambitions, while his equally arrogant, yet ignorant advisors cheer him on. Of course local media (including TKC) lavishes on the praise. Everybody knows you can't criticize a black man.

He has tossed the City Charter aside - News flash, he's a WEAK MAYOR by city charter. He's not supposed to be running the City but has failed to hire a City Mgr. Of course, he's eliminated the majority of qualified applicants with his declaration he will only work with a black man. His war on Rick Smith without reason (besides race) has been a distraction and fuel on a fire he's supposed to be putting out. He knows damn good and well that cops don't submit PC statements on cases bound for the grand jury. He knows damn good and well that submitting such when you don't believe it is true is a crime. He also knows, as a Ivy League attorney, that 4th amendment doesn't apply in hot pursuit, yet he himself labels innocent cops as murderers and incites violence in our City. He should be indicted.

He has made himself king with a Covid emergency declaration that was questionable in its beginning and clearly NOT an emergency today, yet he uses that to implement policies/ordinances that he knows the public will object to. The Paseo fiasco taught him nothing.

He represents ALL KANSAS CITIANS, not just BLM protesters. His job is to reign in, out of control city council, not intimidate those trying to represent THEIR constituents.

    RECALL LUCAS

  24. Mayor Lucas has done a great job for the community. I don’t see any of you keyboard warriors doing anything, except taking two knees for your wife’s new ebony boyfriend. Better get on the right side of this, BLM forever!

  25. ^^^ I spent over 6 figures in Kc to stimulate an Economy so far this year . Which you have never done . So keep blabbing. Sounds to me that you like licking the BBC gf clean ?

Don't say "pegged." You'll get Q Ball excited.

  29. Q-Ball is dumber than the Lake Ozark Mayor. That guy might be stupid but he didn't kneel down to radical protesters and rioters.

  30. It depends on what you mean to evaluate. If you're talking about competence in governance, or managing the main ongoing issues of crime and infrastructure (he aggressively campaigned on crime, remember), he's completely failing. Even before the virus, he was floundering around cluelessly. Of course when more crises emerged, his weakness and lack of fitness for the task became screamingly obvious as he tried to pander to everyone at once.

So on the actual job of mayor, he's so thoroughly incompetent that a discussion of recall is pretty sane. Even in the Kansas City/Jackson County arena, where corruption and incompetence go hand in hand, Mayor McDrinkerson is a total failure.

    On self-promotion though? A+++

    ReplyDelete
  31. 6:06 is the most cogent analysis so far. The boy blunder gets Fs across the board except in self-promotion and his ability to get in front of cameras and speak in favor of other failed mayors like Lori Lightfoot of Chicago. He wears his racism and his partisanship on his sleeve while serving in what is supposed to be a non-partisan position. He is supposed to be serving all Kansas Citians, not just those who live there but those who also do business in the city. Instead he favors a narrow and violent constituency while vomiting out word salads for public consumption. It is hard to imagine a more toxic and disqualifying combination of bad traits in one politician.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Don't worry mayor, President Trump has also failed to stop the murders in KC as well.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I voted for him only because I could NOT vote for Justus but he has not been the mayor of all KC just the vocal BLM group! He is anti police and is only interested in moving on up to washington! I will never vote for him a gain,

I can't wait to see what the KC Demonrats come up with to replace the blm wingnut we have now. That should be fun to watch since they insist on lowering the bar each time.

  35. RE: "Now, we ask readers to gauge the progress of this politico presiding over Kansas City amid unprecedented times."

    Quinton Lucas is psychologically unbalanced.
He's been a high-functioning schizophrenic since adolescence, if not earlier. A black man raised by dysfunctional black women, who never knew his biological father, who went to school with well-to-do mostly white peers during the day and returned to the 'hood each evening.

Quinton still doesn't know who he is at his core. He's been chasing his mother's dream (politics/becoming Mayor) since high school. He had an opportunity in college to pursue his real path, but stumbled, hesitated, and reverted back to the narcissist's life of political science, law school, and politics.

Quinton is on a martyr's journey which will ultimately end in tragedy. He's unmarried, no children, owns no real estate in KCMO, and despite his claims of deep ties in the community, would be willing to pack his bags and leave overnight if the right opportunity presented itself.

First, know thyself, or all your actions are meaningless.
