TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY COUNCIL LADY TERESA LOAR ISSUES APOLOGY, COALITION RENEWS DEMAND FOR HER REMOVAL AS T&I CHAIR, CONGRESSMAN CLEAVER COMMENTS, DECISION RESTS WITH MAYOR Q!!!

An escalating controversy over a heated exchange betwixt KCMO council members Teresa Loar vs. Melissa Robinson has now moved to center stage of the municipal agenda.

As we reported over the weekend, what started with a disagreement over an airport paving contract has united a coalition of civil rights organizations to demand for council lady Loar's removal. Tonight the newspaper is rehashing the story that was covered by The Call last week and discussed in great detail by our blog community.

Amid the threat of a virtual press conference tomorrow . . . Here's a look the apology from the Northland Council Lady:

Statement from Teresa Loar, KCMO 2nd District At-Large City Councilmember - Chairwoman of Transportation, Infrastructure and Operations Committee

“I have apologized to my colleague, Councilwoman Melissa Robinson, for a remark that I made in response to her testimony in the legislative session on July 23rd. I know her to be a dedicated public servant who cares deeply about moving our city forward. I respect her intelligence, her life experience, and the strong leadership she brings to the City Council. I’ve learned in my 30 years as a public servant that we can accomplish much more for Kansas City by listening to each other, and even when we disagree, to do so with respect. In this instance I fell short of that personal standard and I promise to do better in the future.”

As we've noted previously, behind the scenes here's what the local media isn't reporting because they're being distracted by the racial drama of the situation . . .

THIS ARGUMENT IS REALLY ABOUT AN EPIC CONTRACT THAT'S NOW IN FLUX!!!

Here's a glimpse at how a social justice struggle can thwart new KCI decisions and possibly create delays . . .

"The (T&I) committee voted 4-1 against awarding an approximately $80 million airfield paving contract to a Colorado firm over a rival St. Joseph, Mo. firm. The committee majority supported a plan to seek best and final offers again from both bidders, and the full Council votes on that plan Thursday."

As usual, TKC doesn't want feds knocking on the blogger basement HQ door but we've talked over and over about the dangers of "bid rigging" and (just so we're all on the same page) that's a term that has been thrown around over and over. But I digress . . .

Given that urban leaders, ministers and activists are rallying to oust Council Lady Loar, we reached out to Congressman Cleaver for perspective.

He noted that he avoids delving into city issues but offered a brief insight . . .

"I've been friends with Teresa Loar for over 30 years and she sought my counsel . . . I think she was right to addresses the situation in her apology. But, given the circumstances, it was appropriate and important that she apologize . . . Whether or not that apology is accepted is another matter."

Now . . .

Mayor Quinton Lucas is under intense pressure to remove the council lady and as usual his answers have been wishy-washy.

In his typical politic fashion, he has proposed a compromise and censure of the committee chair Teresa Loar.

At this point it's important to note that disagreement between council members are commonplace . . . These politicos scream at each other most of the week, a censure would be a big deal and unprecedented over this kind of a dust up . . .

Still, the world has changed and activist pressure citing racism clearly carries more power given heightened tensions following violent protest in KC and across the nation.

Nevertheless . . .

The big picture: An unfortunate interaction between council members has elicited community outrage and now weighs on public policy decisions regarding an airport contract worth 80 MILLION BUCKS as anger over alleged racism trumps concern over New KCI construction delays.

Developing . . .

  1. New kci will be late, but it was already going to be late. Has been delayed since the beginning. .

  2. You reached out to Emmanuel Cleaver to get his perspective on bed rigging and corruption in politics? Am I the only one who appreciates the hilarity in that?

  3. Melissa Robinson is unworthy of any respect there is no insult to her that would be inappropriate. She is a worthless hog.

If Quinton sells our Loar, he is basically handing over the airport to the east side.

  7. Never apologize, ever.

    Now she's toast.

    1. Agreed. Apologies are never excepted by the race baiters. Apologies only embolden them.

  8. There are strict laws about Govt contracts and bids. They might be skirting it with the project being technically private but you can bet good money the Colorado firm will sue over this and don't imagine they will necessarily lose. Everything about this move by the council stinks. The KCI project that I used to support is just screwed now. Between these race obsessed fools and the Covid19 air travel crash with coming airline bankruptcies, it might be years before this gets completed....if ever. yes, it's possible this never gets completed.

  9. Follow on to previous comment: With seriously declining revenues and the Covid not going away...ever. How will this get paid for? This could be catastrophic beyond belief.

  12. So as the homicides continue unabated, the water bills continue to increase, the airport project spins wildly out of control, the virus kills residents, the "activist protesters" make up a new "outrage daily, and the city's financial condition continues to deteriorate, the children at 12th and Oak continue to participate in "let's make believe we can run a city".
    All at taxpayers' expense.
This all continues to be just a game for the little incestuous KCMO political class.
    Sad.

  13. Immediate start of Recall Petitions for Lucas and Robinson if Loar is removed from her Chairpersonship.

Then we'll see where the ACTUAL POWER lies in this City!
(Hint - it isn't with 26% of the population.)

  14. Robinson needs to get the hell over it and stop playing the victim. Apology was given, if she doesn't accept it that's further proof she's immature and incompetent.

  15. “I respect her intelligence, her life experience, and the strong leadership she brings to the City Council.”........ hahahahaha! Now that’s funny right there pandering and having to tell someone because they’re black that they be smart and has “experience” (at what nobody knows) to make them feel better about they selves! Priceless!

The black council can't wait to get rid of this OFWW who may be racist, or at minimum lords her white privilege around.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Precisely WHAT did she say that was racist?

    ReplyDelete
  30. could Loar been more specific about who she thought 'wrote it for her' because we all know darkies can not read or write.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Loar’s crime is being white in the black man’s world of city government. Anyone who does not grovel to the new masters gets destroyed.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Reverse racism against a white council person, nothing more. She should have told them to stop their racism against her whiteness. It’s time whites start standing up for other whites, we are all tired of being called racist without cause or justification, and it’s time to start filing suits against this shit.
