T-MOBILE CANCELS SPONSORSHIP OF KANSAS CITY STREETCAR!!! TOY TRAIN DESPERATELY SEEKING ADVERTISING!!!

And so, with all the hype over "community concern' we've got a peek at a corporate giant scaling back local commitments . . .

T-MOBILE BACKED OUT SPRINT'S EXTRAVAGANT KANSAS CITY STREETCAR SPONSORSHIP AND NOW THE TOY TRAIN NEEDS TO REPLACE NEARLY ONE MILLION BUCKS IN REVENUE!!!

Here's the development blog tidbit and a sign of harsh times throughout the metro . . .

"Since the streetcar started rolling in May 2016, sponsorship from now-defunct Sprint contributed $850,000 toward the operation of the 2.2-mile line which stretches from Union Station to the River Market.

"The Sprint sponsorship had reached $225,000 annually for placement on all six cars before Seattle-based T-Mobile decided to hang up."

The cost for advertising is $50K for 6 months for just one car . . . But I'm sure there is a discount available.

Developing . . .

  2. Like this was big surprise? Sprint's memory will be wiped off the map sooner than later, and T-Mobile will make tracks out of KC faster than a hoodrat throwing bricks at the plaza.

  4. Maybe HyVee should get naming rights since the streetcar is just grabbing a gravy train of money from our taxpayers.

  5. Sprint was spending a million bucks for advertising on THE streetcar?
No wonder they went out of business.

  7. My Sprint service has been excellent since 1998. Great price too.

  8. HyVee sucks. They're now using COVID-19 as an excuse to not take returns on anything. What a joke! High prices and terrible return policy means a lot of people will go elsewhere for groceries.

  9. No wonder they are furloughing employees, they are desperate for cash to waste on toy train.

  10. Shut the Toy Train down. It’s was voted down by taxpayers. We will not pay for it.

  11. Let's add the toy train to the list of BLM murals the city wants to paint. Showcase local thug art.

  12. Bad deal on Sprint's part, but as a "hometown" company there was pressure to step up for the streetcar. T-Mobile suffers no such pressure, this isn't Bellvue. Expect them to operate in KC much more like a reluctant participant... they didn't renew the streetcar deal, they won't renew the arena deal, and they will close shop on the OP campus as soon as it's feasible from a PR standpoint.

  16. Many Sprint employees work from home, in their PJ's, and never even get out of bed before 10am. But draw full salaries and raises each year. Many only get up to retrieve Amazon packages off their doorsteps. Its a good thing Sprint is now almost gone. Its workers were an insult to the average hard working american that drives to work thru rain, snow, ice, heat, heavy traffic.
