PROTEST ERUPTS DURING OVERLAND PARK COUNCIL MEETING!!! 2018 FATAL POLICE SHOOTING OF TEEN JOHN ALBERS SPARKS CONTINUED OUTCRY!!!

What's interesting here and what local media don't want to mention is that local activists are doing their homework on Kansas City metro police history and have taken up the cause of a controversial killing to continue DEFUND advocacy against law enforcement . . . Checkit:

KSHB: Protesters, mayor clash at Overland Park City Council meeting

Deets:

The fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy in 2018 and the subsequent payoff given to the police officer who killed him led to a contentious and heated Overland Park City Council meeting Monday night.

Citizens and protesters demanded an opportunity to speak on the subject, but instead talked over the meeting when denied that chance.

“Why are you talking about a pool, when a young boy was massacred in his own driveway,” Bob Hoffman said after speaking about seven minutes without council approval at the start of the meeting. "His mother is here with us right now."

"Officer, could you remove these two from the council chambers?” Overland Park Mayor Carl Gerlach directed police officers in response to Hoffman and another protester standing and speaking before the meeting.

  3. It was a terrible situation to begin with, I still think all the cops had to do was block the damn garage but instead they came shooting.

A no win situation anyway you look at it.

  4. What happened is a sad thing. But if he hadn't been stopped and got down the road then slammed into some family driving down the same street, it'd be why didn't the police shoot him. Damned if you do damned if you don't.

    1. Exactly, had he left the drive way he would have became a danger to others and a liability to his parents insurance company.

  5. That’s why they should’ve had a car blocking the door, the mom told them he was getting in the car. The whole thing just sucks.

  6. thank you to the courageous protestors at the meeting.

    this was a tragedy..

trying to hide the culpability is unacceptable.

  7. OPPD had been to this house several times because this kid was always in trouble. To make matters worse his mom is the Vice Principal at Harmony Middle School and every friend of mine that had kids at that school said she's nothing but a bitch. Maybe she should of tried being a better parent and person.

  10. The Cops werent there because it was a great family situation. They also didn't choose to show up due to a clairvoyant crystal ball. Correct ?

  11. The kid had issues. Some folks simply are not wired properly; nobody's fault, just nature.

However, the parents called the police, the police came to assist and unfortunately the young man tried to run them over with the car.

Somebody said the police should have blocked the garage door; well the same could be said the parents should have hidden his car keys or blocked the garage door as well.

A terrible tragedy made worse by the parents trying to shift the blame on the police.

  12. I find it interesting how the parents didn't try to physically contain the child but then hate the OPPD for doing it wrong when they did.

Just another set of parents who want to blame a tragic outcome on everyone but themselves.

  21. 9:11, whats the matter pussy the truth hurt? You do know by law all parents are responsible for their kids till they turn 18 or leave the home. The parents didn't do what should have been done and as a result their brat is dead.

You can deal with your out-of-control teenager with the help of several measures.

    Face the Mirror:
Is it you or is it your teen? Did you contribute to your teen’s troubled behavior? What makes your teen behave the way he does all of a sudden? You may also be in denial about your teenager out-of-control behavior. But this may not help anyone in similar situations. So, it may help you to observe and reflect on the whole situation. Get outside professional help and if need by place the child in a residential treatment center. Ignoring the warning signs is the sign of week parents unable to face the facts their child needs help or thinks their social status will take a hit if do place a child in treatment.

This is the same group that continues to whine about the OPPD officers refusing to give their names and badge numbers during the 'peaceful protest' in OP a few weeks ago. Now they refuse to give their own names and one identifies herself (itself?) only as "Q" during this meeting.

These are nothing but a bunch of bored revolutionary wanna-bes looking for a cause, any cause, to fight against. But they are getting braver. Instead of their usual spot they will soon be 'protesting' at 75th and Wornall! Such fortitude, being in that much of a hood. Not after dark, mind you. That would be too much. When they move to 75th and Prospect I'll start to be impressed.

  28. Funny how many Parents I knew with severe Problemed Children in the past. Most of the Parents were in denial 24/7 and all were into blaming others for the actions of their children, and still are. Several turned out to murder, all career criminals and all got to see prison many times. Never heard any Parent take any responsibility , them or child. NEVER.

  29. Parents, handle your minor children by yourselves. Don't expect the police to do your job. Is the kid violent? FYI, the police are armed, and they are not going to risk their own lives at the hands of your whelp. So if you want the kid to live until tomorrow, do what needs to be done without police involvement.

  30. Police are trained to shoot first and ask questions later. They cant just stand around and get killed trying to get answers during a investigation. Its always been that way. What else can they do?
