TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! COMMUNITY QUESTION: HAVE KANSAS CITY PROTESTS AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY LOST THE MORAL HIGH GROUND AFTER ALLEGED VANDALISM AND ASSAULT ON COPS?!?

After Minneapolis police killed George Floyd, even President Trump called the incident a "disgrace" as the nation watched a shocking video of a murder case involving authorities targeting a petty criminal with a hideous public display of barbarism.

Cities burned in the aftermath.

Locally, activists rallied, rioted and pressured politicos and law enforcement for systemic change.

Very quickly a great deal of their activism met with success and there's a vote on the way that might fundamentally change police control in Kansas City.

However . . .

Weeks of protest seems to be wearing on Kansas City residents and an attack of police headquarters downtown might be a turning point in public perception. Despite early support of protesters, Mayor Lucas denounced the incident, told protesters to so somewhere else and made a devastating rebuke against "fake primarily non-black allies" in his remarks.

Here are the most serious consequence of the weekend melee and context for the mugshot that most local media have suppressed . . .

"A protester demonstrating at the Kansas City Police Department headquarters on July 17 has been charged for assaulting a law enforcement officer, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said in a statement.

"A 23-year-old of Lawrence, Kansas, has been charged with 4th-degree assault and resisting arrest."

To be fair, today the Kansas City Star, this town's "paper of record," is giving voice to some of the protest groups claiming responsibility for the attack on KCPD HQ . . .

KC does not need occupying federal forces. Instead, bring justice to our community

One Struggle KC features the column on their social media presence for readers who don't want to bother with the paywall. Remember that "One Struggle" has been at the forefront of the local protest movement against police brutality and leads arguments against the so-called federal "occupation."

However, let's not forget that the mother of the slaughtered Kansas City youngster who provides the namesake of the federal operation has objected to protests in her son's name and seems to hope federal intervention will lead to justice and less violence in this town overall.

In conclusion . . .

The unanimity we've seen against police brutality now confronts "complications" as the politics and activism of the movement meet with understandable resistance and assault targeting law enforcement officials is justifiably condemned by all reasonable people.

Given all of these considerations . . . We put the question to our blog community . . .

HAS RECENT VANDALISM AND ALLEGED ATTACKS AGAINST KANSAS CITY POLICE HURT PROTESTS AGAINST LAW ENFORCEMENT  BRUTALITY AND SYSTEMIC RACISM?!?

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. You're being too generous in giving them the moral high ground in the first place.

Some misguided people didn't think police did anything wrong. That's incorrect but the sentiment has been shared throughout the protests.

You have only one comment that is relevant about "what reasonable" people think.

Reasonable people don't want police kneeling on the necks of suspects even in the worst of all crimes.

But reasonable people also don't want to watch their cities burned.

  5. The actions of a few do not negate the fact that the protesters have a good point just as the actions of a few really rotten cops do not negate the fact that most are excellent public servants.

That said, the actions of the DHS disguised as "Police" in Portland are reprehensible.

Wait, when did they ever have the moral high ground? All they are is either a 100% off sale, a chance to vandalize, an opportunity to assault police or all three. That's high ground? Wanna buy a bridge?

  11. There has been some police brutality yes but what I am seeing is a thousandfold return of brutality against police, business owners and the general public as a whole that is not only unwarranted but makes those doing it hypocrites. You can't fight against violence and destruction by being violent and destructive.

If you stand against police brutality then you stand for yourself to be as well charged with any crimes you commit against fellow beings and their property.

You can't be against what is portrayed to be evil while committing acts of evil yourself.

You can't scream about police entrapment when you take to the streets with cameras and signs attempting to entrap the police yourself.

  24. Yes! These have never been protests they have always been riots both black and white. This has nothing to do with Gorege Floyd, cops, or racism this is all about tyranny and people are being used to bring in globalism. Some people don't understand the huge agenda behind this and it's right in front of their face. Where did BLM get their money so fast and lots of it? Where did ANTIFA get their money so fast as lots of it too? Think about it and do your research. Globalists use the divide and conquer the same way Hitler tried to do.

  25. This gang never had the moral high ground.
The "movement" quickly deteriorated into an uninformed clueless mob of easily-led useful idiots, thugs looking for some cover to loot and arson, and white suburbanites, few of who have been in urban core neighborhoods and certainly never after dark.
And all led by the noses by a handful of con men and grifters who have made very serious bucks on the whole fiasco.
Millions have poured into "black social justice" organizations, BLM, "diversity training", and other sketchy organizations and most of the money will simply disappear into thin air.
It never fails that as soon as an idea is kidnapped by the self-appointed "activist" crowd, it's dragged to its most extreme, losing public support all along the way, the infighting over who is going to "run" the show, get the money, and TV time begins, and the media works desperately to try to keep the whole thing relevant.
BLM has become yesterday's news and all the "changes" in superficial nonsense like the "black national anthem", statue removal, street name changes, and sports team mascot decisions aren't going to change anything at all about "systemic racism", whatever that may be.
On to the next social media-driven "cause"!

  26. Yeah, you go 110.

There's good and bad everywhere. Cops and citizens. The bill of rights and constitution are all about protecting citizens from the overwhelming power of the state.

What percent of murderers on death row are exonerated by DNA evidence? Google it up. People get framed and then they fry. Framed by whom ... connect the dots. Look the list is long. Look up "mass exonerations". See what you find.

Good point about the innocent business owners suffering. Provocation is not entrapment. Different things legally.

The cops have a tough job. They are supposed to lasso the bad guys with one hand tied behind their back by this pesky thing called the constitution while 50 cellphones record everthing.

It's a thankless job to put one's life on the line and not get much love.

Maybe this will change as policing aligns less with weed busts and broken windows and more with combatting violent criminals. We should be excited if there is a positive outcome to this fed-kcpd alliance.

A change in police priorities means people have to protect their own stuff. Sorry to break the bad news, but times-a-coming when 911 ain't gonna be investigating which neighbor's cat peed on your geraniums. You can talk to your social worker about that.

After the election he is going for local control, kneeling, signing documents calling for depolicing and defunding Kansas City.

He fucked up by keeping a campaign staff as his policy team. None of them know how to run a government. Since they are constantly in campaign mode they failed to understand that this isn’t Chicago or St Louis. The people in our city still support the police. Lucas has no chance to win north of the river and lost the cops totally. In fact I have heard from a couple that I know that they are going to organize to fight the 1 percent tax. If they go against it KC will most certainly lose it for good.

  56. These rioters have set race relations back 50 yrs. They’ve done far more damage than any police incident in memory. Their attacks on KCPD have NOTHING TO DO WITH KCPD. They hate “cops” and are taking the behavior of a few bad cops in a dept with obvious issues. KCPD on the other hand has had FEW actual instances of police misconduct. So few, that they are having to make them up with fake prosecutions, knowing they will end up in acquittals or dismissals. Q and Baker continue to tell lies about police investigations and accountability, so clearly they can’t find actual incidents.

Law abiding citizens are fed up. Get rid of the cops and you deal directly with us. We’re neither as patient or professional as KCPD. It will end poorly for them. The false “moral high ground” they thought they had is long gone. This has nothing to do with George Floyd. Nothing to do with police brutality. This is an insurrection and it will be put down.

  60. Manny Johnson ;

The color of one’s skin is no bar to a young man or woman dreaming of making a better world. Like other Negroes, I experienced and saw many injustices and inequities around me based upon color, not ability. I was told that “the decadent capitalist system is responsible,” that “mass pressure” could force concessions but “that just prolongs the life of capitalism”; that I must unite and work with all those who more or less agree that capitalism must go.

Little did I realize until I was deeply enmeshed in the Red Conspiracy, that just and seeming grievances are exploited to transform idealism into a cold and ruthless weapon against the capitalist system—that this is the end toward which all the communist efforts among Negroes are directed.

Indeed, I had entered the red conspiracy in the vain belief that it was the way to a “new, better and superior” world system of society. Ten years later, thoroughly disillusioned, I abandoned communism. The experiences of those years in “outer darkness” are like a horrible nightmare. I saw communism in all its naked cruelty, ruthlessness and utter contempt of Christian attributes and passions. And, too, I saw the low value placed upon human life, the total lack of respect for the dignity of man, the betrayal of trust, the terror of the Secret Police and the bloody hand of the assassin, during and since, those fateful years when I embraced communism.
