SHOCK!!! KANSAS CITY MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS DENOUNCES GOP 'DEFUND THE POLICE' LOCAL CONTROL CONNECTION AFTER HIS OWN PO-PO DOUBLE-CROSS!!!
Rather than provide consistent leadership as a member of The Board of Police Commissioners, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas engages in partisan attacks while attempting to spin his way out of a local law enforcement crisis of his own making.
A recent blog quote features Mayor Lucas on the attack . . .
In a press release targeting Guv candidate and MO Auditor Nicole Galloway, Missouri Republican Party Executive Director Jean Evans referred to the push for local control as “an initiative in Kansas City that would transfer power to Democrats who support defunding police departments.”
Mayor Lucas called the characterization a “bald-face lie” by “party hacks who aren’t invested in long term conversations about how to make our communities stronger.”
“Nobody in Kansas City government, and certainly not this mayor, has ever suggested local control is some move to defund or dismantle the Kansas City Police Department,” Lucas said.
Meanwhile . . .
The KCPD budget has been cut by $10-MILLION in an across the board move that will remove officers from local streets.
Mayor Lucas only moved toward a vote for local control following the demands of a #BlackLivesMatter protest. Defunding the police has been a rallying cry during the group's demonstrations.
Only a year ago, Mayor Q earned police union support and the law enforcement labor concern has consistently opposed local control.
And so, while Mayor Lucas has been "less than consistent" with his leadership on local law enforcement issues, his strident support of Democratic Party talking points has been dependable.
