Coin shortage causing headaches for Kansas City metro merchants

MISSION, Kan. - Americans are sitting on a pile of coins as more merchants say they're having trouble accepting cash payments because they can't make change. Chick-Fil-A restaurants in some states are giving customers free food if they bring in rolls of coins to exchange.

  4. I was at Chipotle around 91st n Metcalf and they couldn't make ANY loose change so they rounded me up from 33c to the next dollar in their favor. I called the cashier on it and he said it was what the manager told him to do.

    I thought they should round up at 51c and told the cashier so. My GF thought I was being a jerk over 67c. I tried to explain the principle of the matter, how people get ripped of one LIBOR basis point at a time, and pretty soon it adds up to millions. In the end I just paid with my debit card.
