Darryl Forte is running his reelection campaign against the man he replaced as sheriff two years ago. Forte said his priorities include hiring into the ranks and promoting more women and people of color, and stressed the importance of building relationships between law enforcement and the community.

  12. Anyone else notice that he’s claiming responsibility for seven of the last eight minorities hired by the Sheriff’s Department? Sort of makes you wonder how many minorities had even bothered to apply prior to his being appointed Sheriff. It also begs the question of whether he changed the standards for being hired? If all he’s doing is lowering the bar in order to get otherwise unqualified minorities in the door, that’s not a victory for Jackson County taxpayers or the other employees at the Sheriff’s Office.
