JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF FORTÉ CAMPAIGNS AS REFORMER!!! SLAMS DEPARTMENT CULTURE & PREDECESSOR!!!
As we noted earlier in the week, Sheriff Forté isn't getting much help in his reelection bid from his colleagues in law enforcement.
Accordingly . . .
THE JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF SLAMS THE DEPARTMENT & HIS PREDECESSOR IN RECENT TWEETS PROMISING REFORM!!!
The first in the series is pretty innocuous and somewhat hopeful but still points out a need for greater accountability . . .
"To continue to build much needed trust in the community I’m requesting MSHP investigate internal criminal matters as well as officer involved shootings. MSHP investigated most recent OIS. We want a trusted and respected sheriff’s office."
And then, he offers some shocking deets regarding local law enforcement . . .
"Why would anyone trust and respect @JCSheriffOffice when unreported, known wide spread internal theft, favoritism, sexual harassment and discrimination was commonplace? I respectfully ask for your patience as we earn your trust and respect. We’re trying!"
In response to a few questions about his tenure he lets loose in his reply . . .
"You have no idea what we’ve accomplished. The sheriff’s office wasn’t rendered dysfunctional overnight so don’t expect miracles in two years. Don’t buy into the hype of those who don’t want us to succeed. Office was disgraced. Former sheriff’s girlfriend charged w/theft."
Accordingly . . .
Some suggest the Sheriff's tougher tone in tweets regarding the upcoming primary election could represent his fear of an upset from former Sheriff Sharp but it's far more likely that opposition from fellow law enforcement officials and colleagues might have inspired this Twitter storm.
