TKC READERS TOLD YOU SO!!! CORONAVIRUS, RIOTS & KANSAS CITY POLITICAL NAME GAME JEOPARDIZE COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA BUSINESS!!!

Our blog community was the FIRST to report on the devastating economic hit the Plaza has endured over the past two weeks.

TKC readers continued dispensing community journalism by noting a EPIC busted deal in the midst of culture war debate.

To wit . . .

CORONAVIRUS HARSH TIMES THREATEN PLAZA PARENT COMPANY ACQUISITION!!!

TKC Readers warned, "Simon is canceling acquisition of Taubman, which owns the Plaza . . . A legal imbroglio is assured . . ."

More deets from MSM:

CNBC: Mall owner Simon terminates its deal to buy Taubman due to pandemic

Deets:

"Simon said Wednesday morning it has exercised its contractual rights to terminate its deal to acquire the high-end mall owner. Simon argues that Taubman has breached its obligations, specifically by not taking steps “to mitigate the impact of the pandemic as others in the industry have.” Taubman later said it believes the termination is “invalid and without merit, and that Simon continues to be bound to the transaction in all respects.”

Add rioting, racially charged politics & rising crime into the mix and any financial arrangement would likely result in FAIL.

Even worse, retail is dead and corporate foodie fare no longer offers much incentive for visitors . . . Locals might not think this impacts the rest of this cowtown but for many tourists and suburban visitors: THE PLAZA IS KANSAS CITY.

Accordingly . . .

Our readers point to the lessons of antiquity and warn against a Pyrrhic victory for social justice warriors - A triumph which sustains such a heavy toll that negates any true sense of achievement or damages long-term progress.

Moreover . . .

A recent history of consistent teen violence, outrage over animal cruelty, nude creepers on the prowl, constant protest and now a deadly pandemic have finally resulted in real financial damage for the entertainment district and a negative economic outlook for Kansas City's signature shopping destination.

You decide . . .

  16. Most of the protestors and SJWs have zero idea what "Pyrrhic victory" means (well . . . a few might think it's a video game) so you really can't expect them to ponder the ramifications of their actions. They have no plan, no concrete goals, and no idea of what to do with their newfound support from multi-national companies who support their rantings so long as it increases the sale of widgets.

They're much like the dog who catches the car . . . what comes next has never been considered. The SJWs will succeed in destroying the Plaza, and city government succeeded in destroying itself a long time ago.

The smart money says you should move . . . wait for this tempest in a teapot to calm down . . . and later pick up cheap, urban, real estate as a long-term investment (sort of like NYC in the 70s).

    The claim
Black and Hispanic unemployment are at or near record lows.

    The short answer
Trump's numbers are right, but it's generally a stretch for presidents to take credit for job creation.

    The long answer
Trump is right that African-American unemployment hit a record low in December. The unemployment rate for black Americans is currently 6.8 percent, the lowest level recorded since the government started keeping track in January 1972.

And he's also right that the Hispanic unemployment rate is down a point over the last year — it was at 4.9 percent in December, down from 5.9 percent in December 2016. That is close to a record low, though it's also up 0.1 point from November.

But still, fact check: true on Trump's numbers.

With 5 steak houses they overfilled that category.
Ran out the class entertainment venues.
Opened up chain stores like victoria secret and gap.
    Restaurants sucked...nothing unique.

  68. 540 and 703, some of the best things and things which make the metropolitan area a great place to live are in, yes, KCMO: Chiefs, Royals, Performing Arts Center, Rep Theatre, Starlight, Sprint Center, Linda Hall Library. Maybe shopping in JoCo is abundant but the things that make Kansas City a livable town are largely in MO.

    ReplyDelete
  69. 9:01:
Last time I was in KCMO was to give a windshield tour to visitors, and to wish a happy birthday to a friend during Covid.

    Chiefs? on TV.
    Royals, who cares.
    Kauffman--too expensive.
Rep--not as good as Unicorn, you failed to mention them.
Starlight? Too hot, seats too far from stage.
    Sprint Center--never went.
Linda Hall Library?? Seriously? No one ever goes there.
    The Trolley? Never rode it.
Union Station--dropped a friend off at the train depot and left. Lame exhibits.
Fringe Fest? Cancelled. Has gotten worse every year.
You left out the Nelson and the Kemper. The true superstar attractions.
Used to go to every First Friday, don't feel safe there anymore since the shooting and street thug culture that clogs the sidewalks and you can't get to the art.
Tivoli was awesome. When Nelson reopens, they show one film 4 afternoons a week. I can walk safely from my car to door.
Plaza? No reason to go. And the yutes and beggars are offputting.

So I'm good here in Joco thanks.
