TKC READERS TOLD YOU SO!!! CORONAVIRUS, RIOTS & KANSAS CITY POLITICAL NAME GAME JEOPARDIZE COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA BUSINESS!!!

Our blog community was the FIRST to report on the devastating economic hit the Plaza has endured over the past two weeks.

TKC readers continued dispensing community journalism by noting a EPIC busted deal in the midst of culture war debate.

To wit . . .

CORONAVIRUS HARSH TIMES THREATEN PLAZA PARENT COMPANY ACQUISITION!!!

TKC Readers warned, "Simon is canceling acquisition of Taubman, which owns the Plaza . . . A legal imbroglio is assured . . ."

More deets from MSM:

CNBC: Mall owner Simon terminates its deal to buy Taubman due to pandemic

Deets:

"Simon said Wednesday morning it has exercised its contractual rights to terminate its deal to acquire the high-end mall owner. Simon argues that Taubman has breached its obligations, specifically by not taking steps “to mitigate the impact of the pandemic as others in the industry have.” Taubman later said it believes the termination is “invalid and without merit, and that Simon continues to be bound to the transaction in all respects.”

Add rioting, racially charged politics & rising crime into the mix and any financial arrangement would likely result in FAIL.

Even worse, retail is dead and corporate foodie fare no longer offers much incentive for visitors . . . Locals might not think this impacts the rest of this cowtown but for many tourists and suburban visitors: THE PLAZA IS KANSAS CITY.

Accordingly . . .

Our readers point to the lessons of antiquity and warn against a Pyrrhic victory for social justice warriors - A triumph which sustains such a heavy toll that negates any true sense of achievement or damages long-term progress.

Moreover . . .

A recent history of consistent teen violence, outrage over animal cruelty, nude creepers on the prowl, constant protest and now a deadly pandemic have finally resulted in real financial damage for the entertainment district and a negative economic outlook for Kansas City's signature shopping destination.

You decide . . .

MLK Parkway and boarded up plaza stores. Antifa's dream.

Far too dramatic.

The Cinnabon will continue to do a brisk business. Sorry.

Anonymous said...

I would say the Nike store will survive as well but they seem like an easy target for anybody wanting to make a quick buck.

Anonymous said...

You think it's bad now?

Just wait till the streetcar brings every downtown junkie to the plaza for panhandling. Gonna be a hell of a time even parking.

Anonymous said...

stick a fork in the plaza. It's done.

^^^ OKAY BOOMER.

We already told you that's an ancient phrase.

Try something original. Or just stay in your trailer park. You don't have the money to shop anyway.

Anonymous said...

So 'ok boomer' is original. Lol

Anonymous said...

Since the drive is to rename things around the Plaza, why not rename the entire area to reflect its future?

"The Landing Shopping Center West" sounds about right.

Anonymous said...

Plaza should be rebranded as The Great Mall of Killer City

"The Landing Shopping Center West"

Stick a fork in the Plaza.

Next will be Crown Center and then Kansas Power and Light District as the crowd moves from one location to the other causing mass destruction.

Mayor Quentin Lucas is doing a bang up job in his first two months in office destroying Kansas City.

Hopefully forty years from now a street will be named for him.

Boomers lamenting a shopping center none of them ever go to. Hilarious! Stupid Boomers.

Anonymous said...

"OK Boomer" or another variation used in a disparaging tone = the new N-word equivalent phrase that tries to diminish and dehumanize the elderly and make them sound stupid in a “hip” way. Imagine if people started saying, "OK N****r." Age discrimination and elder abuse are alive and well in America, and these issues are as disgusting, shameful and wrong as racism.

It is the boy blunder’s dream to turn the Plaza into an east side ghetto just to punish white people for being white. If the people of Kansas City are not able to rise up and take their city back from this nihilist and the mob he champions they are getting what they deserve.

Most of the protestors and SJWs have zero idea what "Pyrrhic victory" means (well . . . a few might think it's a video game) so you really can't expect them to ponder the ramifications of their actions. They have no plan, no concrete goals, and no idea of what to do with their newfound support from multi-national companies who support their rantings so long as it increases the sale of widgets.

They're much like the dog who catches the car . . . what comes next has never been considered. The SJWs will succeed in destroying the Plaza, and city government succeeded in destroying itself a long time ago.

The smart money says you should move . . . wait for this tempest in a teapot to calm down . . . and later pick up cheap, urban, real estate as a long-term investment (sort of like NYC in the 70s).

Anonymous said...

^^and yet it's not, and never will be. Weird.

Missing from the list was panhandlers; the obviously mentally ill ones like the one I saw pee herself while standing in front of Sur La Table in the middle of one afternoon. Or the one that yells at people walking by the Apple store.

Is everybody supposed to be sad that karma has finally caught up with the racist plaza. For years the plaza has rejected black people by closing the McDonald's and the movie theaters, and promoting a place where lilly white people can go and walk around with sunglasses on acting like they are the kings of the world. I'm glad its going under.

Shall we also rename Jackson County? Andrew Jackson was anti-Indian and broke many treaties.

When does this end?

Still waiting to learn who was injured when the statue was toppled in Seattle last night. (Shades of the Saddam Hussein statue. Shouldn't there be a better YouTube video on how to take down a bronze work of art??)

Is the Jackson statue at 12th and Oak next?
Stand back, onlookers!

Black students should take their exams - don't know if that's a fake story or not but all students should take their exams.

Even during grammar school years students should take their exams. The ones who can't produce a passing grade simply repeats the same grade again. It's not fair to the student to move them along when they're not ready.

Nothing worse than seeing a 21 yo fill out a resume/application with what appears to be third grade penmanship skills - sad.

Sorry for the off topic rant.

Don't the blacks see that they are the problem ?

Liberals are not happy without a victim to help. The better things are the unhappier they are. Trump had things going in the right direction despite their best efforts to derail him. It proves how great this country could be with leadership that has the country's best interest at heart not their own bank accounts.

BLM and AntiFA are turning out to be like ISIS, taking territory and setting up their own government in Seattle, and like the Taliban destroying statues all over the country because they are personally offended by the subjects. It is heartwarming to know that the problems of the world have finally made their way to our shores despite the explicit desires of this nation’s founders to leave those things behind. Now there are radical communists, vandals, terrorists, and race hustlers seemingly everywhere you look. Lock and load. This is going to get worse before it gets better but these barbarians need to go.

Hyperblogal said...

The Plaza would be better off without Simon.

Byron Funkhouser said...

10:42, "lock & load" is a barbaric, anarchistic slogan.

It is not something a civilized person would be advocating.

Honoring segregationists is offensive to blacks & Yankees.

If fact, that was the point.

Trump had Black and Hispanic unemployment down to the lowest levels ever and wages going up before the pandemic hit. For those who want to work for a living, this is the greatest gift for a better life. Trump is the only candidate who can get America back to those levels. For those who want to sit on their butts, tearing up and burning buildings and cars, cowardly throwing rocks and bricks at police behind women at the front of the protests, and looting for goods that aren't rightfully yours will be your ticket to hell.

Anonymous said...

^^and yet Trump did nothing of the sort. Weird.

Byron everything is offensive to you. I for one am not offended about the history of the south and I'm not even from there. It's history you moron get over it.

Anonymous said...

11:15 STFU and go get your shine box asshole.

The claim
Black and Hispanic unemployment are at or near record lows.

The short answer
Trump's numbers are right, but it's generally a stretch for presidents to take credit for job creation.

The long answer
Trump is right that African-American unemployment hit a record low in December. The unemployment rate for black Americans is currently 6.8 percent, the lowest level recorded since the government started keeping track in January 1972.

And he's also right that the Hispanic unemployment rate is down a point over the last year — it was at 4.9 percent in December, down from 5.9 percent in December 2016. That is close to a record low, though it's also up 0.1 point from November.

But still, fact check: true on Trump's numbers.

Anonymous said...

11:15 you fucking hater even CNN said they were.

Did President Trump come out of the bunker yesterday? Answer: Nope.

What is the point in going down to the Plaza in the first place?

There isn't anything special down there that you can't get in a number of other locations across KC

Nobody wants to sit in traffic to drive down there anymore

50 years ago when you felt out of place on the Plaza because you were blue collar it had a neat upper crust feel to it. But, that left with Halls many yeats ago. Now its a sad relic on the edge of the getto.

Anonymous said...

I could never afford to buy anything at the Plaza anyway so really don't care if it goes under. Haven't been there in years frankly.

Back in the day, it seemed like a gay-snob kind of place to hang out. Just my observation. Did like the Barnes and Noble store.

Anonymous said...

The Plaza was doing good until Gary Lezak was selected to pull the switch to turn on the Plaza Christmas lights.

The Plaza has gone to shit ever since.

Anonymous said...

@12:31

Gary Lezack flipped the switch and unleashed a tidal wave of gayness across the entire plaza dooming it to perpetual faggotry

Yet the plaza has been consistently losing business and value for 20 years. Weird.

Anonymous said...

Yet The Plaza is still around and not going anywhere and not falling for any made-up lost business statistics, which they were.

What killed the plaza was when they shifted from a unique place to go to just another mall.
With 5 steak houses they overfilled that category.
Ran out the class entertainment venues.
Opened up chain stores like victoria secret and gap.
Restaurants sucked...nothing unique.
So if the money is out in southern joco why would they drive to
the plaza when everything was within 5 miles of home.
The plaza shot itself in the foot and now it pays.
Sunglasses for $2000...seriously at the russians store!
Now let itt empty and the two commercial real estate heavyweights
can fight it out for the bones.
I'm in joco and i've got everything i could want and need right
here...and please deplorables...stay in grandview/liberty/north kc/raytown/belton/and riverside.
I moved here to get away from your filth!

We know; Leawood elite, left-wing folks don't get out much in their Lexus to actually know what they are talking about or what the demographics are for various KC Metro areas.

And the Missouri side has ALMOST everything wanted as well,@5:40, the only thing we lack that we really want is a ten foot high Chain-link fence running down State Line Road!

It would be so much fun watching the JOCO residents standing against the fence begging for money and food for their children as their livelihoods dried up and blew away.

540 and 703, some of the best things and things which make the metropolitan area a great place to live are in, yes, KCMO: Chiefs, Royals, Performing Arts Center, Rep Theatre, Starlight, Sprint Center, Linda Hall Library. Maybe shopping in JoCo is abundant but the things that make Kansas City a livable town are largely in MO.

Tracy Thomas said...

9:01:
Last time I was in KCMO was to give a windshield tour to visitors, and to wish a happy birthday to a friend during Covid.

Chiefs? on TV.
Royals, who cares.
Kauffman--too expensive.
Rep--not as good as Unicorn, you failed to mention them.
Starlight? Too hot, seats too far from stage.
Sprint Center--never went.
Linda Hall Library?? Seriously? No one ever goes there.
The Trolley? Never rode it.
Union Station--dropped a friend off at the train depot and left. Lame exhibits.
Fringe Fest? Cancelled. Has gotten worse every year.
You left out the Nelson and the Kemper. The true superstar attractions.
Used to go to every First Friday, don't feel safe there anymore since the shooting and street thug culture that clogs the sidewalks and you can't get to the art.
Tivoli was awesome. When Nelson reopens, they show one film 4 afternoons a week. I can walk safely from my car to door.
Plaza? No reason to go. And the yutes and beggars are offputting.

So I'm good here in Joco thanks.
