Kansas City Conservatives Suspect Public Television Censorship Whilst Progressives Celebrate KCPT Removing Ruckus

On Sunday our blog community was the FIRST to have an in-depth and critical discussion about Kansas City's GOLD STANDARD of local discourse cancelled paused by KCPT.

Since then the local mainstream media has FAILED to over much "journalism" on the topic of the local political discourse seriously scaled back.

Instead, we notice online reporting offering much more insight and perspective.

First, a conservative blog offers a first person interview . . .

Sentinel: Ruckus cancellation by KCPT seems related to conservative censorship

And then, a leading local progressive voice seems to celebrate the decline of the forum . . .

MO Rage: "I say again, this is fantastic . . . Obviously Right Wing, Republican host Mike Shanin and all his old, Right Wing, also Republican buddies like Woody "I'm a Fossil" Cozad were WAY out of line. KCPT viewers and supporters deserve far better."

You decide . . .

  1. It was worse than censorship.

Obviously anti-white hatred. But from whites. So good luck fixing it.

  7. Decades Nielson Reporting cooked the books saying Rush Limbaugh being a conservative programming. KC Star fired off all their reporters decades ago. The conservative dream is now running over protestors. It's the conservative movement that's died.

  12. DEFUND KCPT-19 !

No taxpayer funds and no donations.

Communist Democrat controlled KCPT allows only one ideology called Marxism.

Stalin and Lenin would be proud !

    Onward Comrade !

  13. Their is NO such thing as a progressive. Just another marketing trick. The Marxist Communist Democrat Left use whatever means to not have a discussion of any issue.

  14. I found Ruckus to have a lot of liberal thought/voices on it. Yeah, there were people like Woody Cozad and even Shannin himself were conservatives. Patrick Twohy is part of the Show Me Institute and is more of a conservative (although I believe the institute labels itself as more Libertarian) and he was on the show semi-regularly. But the show had plenty of liberals on there that supported a lot of the tax/borrow/spend ways of our city government i.e. Mary O'Halloran, Jon Stephens of Port KC, etc.

Yes there was a good amount of conservatism on the show but there was also a lot of liberal representation too. If anything, it leaned slightly more left IMO. But both sides, in general, were represented on the show. There were weeks where it leaned more one way than the other. But in general, both sides had at least one voice on the show.

As the article mentioned, if I want pure opinion one way or the other, I'll go to one of the cable "news" (and I use that term very lightly) outlets i.e. CNN, FoxNews, etc. I thought Ruckus did one of the better jobs of representing both sides. And it's a real shame in a world where news has been replaced by pure, unadulterated and often times vicious, biased sprinkled with mis-information, we cancel a show that represents varying viewpoints.

The problem that no one wants to cop to is the fact that KC is a liberal run city. And having too many conservative thoughts and voices about the city may upset the machine.

  15. Never thought I'd see the hippies become the ones for censorship and violence. The left, home of Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot, we were warned.

  17. The Communists Bolsheviks removed all Russian statues of Peter the Great, renamed Saint Petersburg to Leningrad, burned churches, destroyed icons of Mary and Jesus, and removed all historical cultural art.

The Democrat Part has become the Bolsheviks.

All history of the United States must be destroyed per the Democrats.

  20. Look at every Prius, Subaru, and Rav4 with a KCPT bumper sticker and you know who the KCPT base of supporters are. Frontline along with a whole host of far left programming appeals to this base. The News Hour has even taken a turn for the left since some of its long-time journalists have died/departed. Instead of intelligent programming that covers issues across the political/geographic spectrum we are left with a MSNBC-light....with some British dramas, This Old House, and the Antiques Roadshow.

KCPT is like any other media outlet. They have a base of supporters they need to appease. Without that audience, they are off the air. As a result, they are pandering to the outrage of hearing someone like Mike Shanin and Woody Fossil express the viewpoints of a majority of our country. Continue to hide in your bubble - cancel opposing opinions - pretend like you're viewpoint is the only one that matters.

    RIP Ruckus!

  21. Heaven forbid we have LOCAL programming that we get a variety of opinions from across the political spectrum. Mike Shanin - let the public know what really happened at KCPT!

    ReplyDelete
  22. So two of the three KCPT viewers objected to Mike Shannin so they pulled him off the air ?

Who watches public television anyway these days ?

Bob Ross fans ? Sewing with Nancy ?

What a JOKE! If Ruckus doesn't adequately represent viewers, then neither does Kliff Kuehl.

  26. Sorry to see it go- enjoyed listening to what I consider diversity- differing points of view. Will not patronize the businesses who support an organization which suppresses differing points of view. That’s you, Local Pig.

  27. 9:09: As a progressive who watched Ruckus and will miss it, I find your remark racist and classist. Being a white male or living in Leawood has nothing to do with one's ability. Get a grip. You're as bad as some of the worst racists who use TKC as a sounding board for their looney views.

As for Ruckus, those of you who actually watched the show would have to admit that frequently liberals such as Gwen Grant often outnumbered conservatives on the Ruckus panel 3-1.

    1. Liberals usually outnumbered conservatives. Mary O’Halloran leans so far left she spins in circles. I am not a progressive but I watched it and liked hearing multiple sides of an argument. Now thanks to cancel culture, because Progressives didn’t like the Conservatives having any voice, no one gets a voice at all. Goodbye KCPT and goodbye anyone who sponsors their shows. I’ll miss buying meat at The Local Pig.

  36. KCPT has been trying for years to shed itself of this program, even though it is one of the few locally produced programs on the channel. They couldn't accomplish it, even with all their pre-emptions of it, because it is actually very popular with contributors. They finally accomplished their goal. When they beg for funds next time, I plan to tell them just why I am not going to give them anything. I hope that other people express their displeasure too and withhold their donations.

  37. Byron Funkhouser6/30/20, 1:22 PM

8:13, Christmas used to be illegal in America, because the Puritans (the Pilgrims) understood that Jesus was not born on Saturnalia; that the Pope lied. He was trying to end the celebration that took place every year on December 25th, which wasn't Christmas, yet.

They were religious non-conformists & this is what they wouldn't continence.

Modern Christmas was essentially invented by Charles Dickens. Hence, a recent biography that describes him as "The Man Who Invented Christmas".

BTW, only a retard like Rosanne Barr would thank Donald Trump for "Saving Christmas".

    1. Byron, interesting you use the horrible insult “retard” since you “claim” to be disabled. You should be ashamed.
But you are an idiot. All of your info is wrong. Christmas was never illegal here. Go back to making up stupid crap that can’t be confirmed like how tolerant you are.

  38. Byron you sack of shit it was never a law in America only in England.

Some assholes in Massachusetts Bay started saying in their Kangaroo courts it was banned but it’s not true to say that the festival was banned in the United States as a whole until 1836.

Christmas was celebrated long before Charles Dickens was born.

Where the fuck does Byron dream this shit up? Dude is doing way to much meth.

    1. Since Byron doesn’t leave his trailer and lives off his scammed disability welfare bucks, he has time on his hands. When he’s not seething about his brother Mark’s success or crying over the way his mother treated him, he’s pestering people 1300 miles away in a town where he matters even less than where he lives. He spouts nonsense and lies in an effort for relevance but at heart he’s just a Commie who’s lived off the government basically all of his life and contributed nothing. Meth isn’t his problem. Familial jealousy and anger are.
