Actually, this problem has been YEARS IN THE MAKING as this part of the city simply doesn't get the same level of interest and advocacy as other parts of the metro yet they cope with more densely crowded neighborhoods and a housing shift from single-family homes to apartments . . . Take a look:

Kansas City, Missouri, has continued to struggle with a rising tally of homicides and shootings, even amid the coronavirus pandemic. But one area of the city, in particular, has seen a major - and largely unexplained - spike in killings.
For perspective, Baltimore has 120 murders and Chicago has 212. Their hood rats are the real deal, not like our bumbling, stumbling hood rats.

There seems to be a spike in homicides within a short distance of the Cerner complex. Seems that "economic development" is no match for our criminals.
